Let's say you are Lvl 12/100 in drawing. You may be able to draw a passable chair, or bottle or soccer ball, but a face will look uncanny and not realistic. Not because your skill is less or more, but because very precise observation that comes with skill and experience is needed to draw a face that will convince people. But observation and drawing skill can be improved in many other ways than drawing faces (still life, model posing, nature drawing, etc.) and as your skill increases in observation your faces will also be better. No need to draw portraits for 4 years only.
