>>4693691I agree with the anons saying left is overacted and the digital colors are sterile.
But something no one's pointed out yet is the direction.
Right has more varied, interesting direction that better communicates its story. You get shots like Squidward looking through the glass, so you're literally seeing how annoying Spongebob is from Squid's perspective. Then you have this brief ping pong back-and-forth showing Squid's increasingly disapproving reaction to Spongebob's antics. Then the final zoom-out transition revealing Mr Krabs is standing right next to Squid. The comedy is told less through physical slapstick and more through the presentation of the characters' reactions. It's subtler.
Left has nothing like this. It uses two types of shots with small variations. A sort of "scene-establishing" shot dominates, with the occasional semi-closeup of Squid. In general left shows more than is strictly needed to communicate its story, and some shots feel chaotic. Like the first shot that has all these props in it, the ringing telephone, the hand mirror, the cash register, not to mention that, again, it's showing more of the scene, it's less "cropped." You see more of the kitchen window and the door.
Overall I don't recognize it as the Spongebob I grew up with. Feels almost like Family Guy.
