BTW, the painting you posted is an oil, by a very well known artist. He's still alive, and has been painting and drawing for over 70 years (he was an illustrator first, full time painter in the 70's), Howard Terpning. His stuff looks a lot more simple than they really are - I looked in my bookmarks, and found an article that partially shows his process:

Guy has a fascinating fucking career - served in WWII, went to art school on the GI bill, worked as an illustrator and did really well, went to Vietnam as a combat artist (I didn't even know that existed until I read he did it), and then went fill time art in the 70s, and now his panels sell for quarter of a million.
