>>4163342I feel Kubo is both overrated and underrated as a mangaka.
What I mean by him, is that people who like him, tend to emulate his art style, which imo, peaked at Soul Society, though sone later stuff was pretty good from a design standpoint as well.
However, his biggest strengths go totally unappreciated by the people who love to bash him. His linework is incredibly strong, very clean and stylish, the way he stylized onomatopoeia is great. His love for calligraphy really shows, with how much care he puts into making sure the sound effects LOOK good and blend well visually with the page. But most importantly, his composition is top notch. The pages, MOVE. It’s a super clean and easy read, and everything just has a very strong cinematic feel to it. He’s definitely someone worth analyzing if you wanna get into manga, especially if you’re interested in how to ink in a way that’s aesthetically pleasing.
