What are some good communities to browse for inspiration / motivation and to appreciate art that others have created?
Deviant Art seems to be just filled with /beg/ tier anime and furry trash, and sites like instagram and tumblr are useless because they're for following people you already like the work of.
What are some good sites for discovering good art?

Kind of. A lot of good artists have come, and are coming, out of /ic/. It's nice that it's on 4chan so the average person thinks it's evil, but at the same time I feel like this board is held back by this websites reputation

i dont think the boards reputation holds it back , i think it it enhances the experience and makes you feel more proud when anons think you did a good job at the same time keeps a way people who cant handle criticism. if you are scared to come here then you are scared to learn. if you wont use every resource to your advantage especially one as good as ic then you dont need to make it.

Artstation.
Nothing tops that website. Everytime you refresh, every single thumbnail will be god tier.
SO MANY of them, you'll have to open everything in a new tab just to keep the page from shuffling.
There's only 17% shitty art from there.

Go to the instagram account of artist your like and go through the people they follow. I discover most artists like that since the artists i already like probably follow artists that fit my taste.

The one or two people who you're aware of from here that did something with their lives would have done so anyway.

/ic/ itself isn't conducive to growth whatsoever. It's a place to shitpost and convince plebs that good advice is absolutely wrong.

huaban.com & pinterest are god's given gift fort artists. I never digged too much into artstation and cgsociety but I don't think I'm wrong in saying it's a solid 90% of illustration / concept art which doesn't appeal much to me
