Is there a way to "grind" perspective? Like a practice I can do daily to gradually understand placing shapes in space?

I've been studying it but it's very dry and I'm unsure of how to utilize it for people or natural forms, everything I ever read is designed for cubes and buildings so I haven no idea how to use perspective for like a close up picture of a person.

Practice drawing boxes/cylinders with a perspective grid in place.
When you get comfortable with the placements remove the grid and try drawing rotating boxes and cylinders in open space, check and make sure the edges of the boxes reach a proper perspective grid after filling out each page.

I kinda need advice on my lines. Or more specifically lineart. I am ok with a bit of mess in my sketching phase, but when i check my "final" lines they just look a little wonky. Nothing looks really clean. The lines look slightly jittery. This is particularly an issue when im trying to go ink over a sketch. For example the quick stomache sketch i feel like has fine lines, but the boxes i drew make me wanna gouge my eyes out.

Do i just keep on grinding and hopefully get better at it?

Omega stupid question but, should I have my reference be on the same angle as what I'm drawing on? I usually try to sketch stuff from my monitor onto a piece I have flat on my desk which usually leads me to swapping constantly between 2 points of views that are 90 degrees apart.

If it's 90 degrees then it doesn't matter. It's like turning a cube, every face is the same. But having a monitor on 90 degrees isn't ergonomic. Just so you know.

I meant more as in does it matter if I should have my canvas be side by side with what I'm sketching or is it fine to rely on my residual memory as my current setup doesn't allow me to see my canvas at the same time as what I'm sketching on a monitor.

As long as the image isn't warped on your monitor because your monitor isn't exactly 90 degrees, then it should be fine if you trust your photographic memory.

Uh, I kinda feel like I only learned how to draw heads that aren't angled or rotated at all. Also he never even explains anything to do with the jawline he just wordlessly draws it in? I don't know if this taught me anything except for the proportions stuff at the very beginning?

What is more cheap and quick way to draw simplified hands for cartoon character without using a lot of construction or rest-of-the-owl-magic? I'm not skilled enough to use methods from countless "how to draw chibis" books.

Just construct the basic planar layout, then construct the thumb and palm shapes and use gesture lines for the fingers.

It's too hard for me until I master mechanical skill (after months or years). Too many too closed lines, I can't draw with so insane accuracy. Even heads and faces requires much less from my hands. I hasn't problems with understanding how it works, I'm CAD designer and boxes ate my brain years ago. I has problems with fine hand work (and partially with eyes but ruler is always an option).

Do gesture studies with me everyday. Well, almost everyday. You can do any routine you want, but mine is 30 minutes (30sec x10, 1min x9, 2min x8)

30 minutes a day anon! If you're studying basic proportion, basic anatomy, etc. at the same time, you WILL improve!

Yep-- gestures are perfect for my hectic schedule. I started figure drawing for the first time in two weeks and could definitely see hints of regression. Been doing nothing but figure drawing over Thanksgiving break and feels good to have a pencil in my hand again.

Funnily enough, after that little hiatus, some stuff just kind of clicked anatomy-wise (at least I feel it did). WAGMI!
