The reason so many people are having problems with your correction is that, rather than looking like some bounce light entering the cast shadow, she looks like she's being directly lit from below. This is horror movie lighting reserved for monsters.
This has nothing to do with how much time you spent on the paintover. It's an aesthetic and technical choice that is unflattering and inappropriate. It's a big picture thing. Always think about the bigger picture first.
