Later on in the series, Usagi talks to himself about his sword and how often he uses it. He left Katsuichi ready to be a great samurai and live by bushido. Turns out that becoming a ronin was the best thing that ever happened to him. From a servant (samurai), putting duty above love, he turns into a free man following his heart rather than a strict, no-exceptions-allowed code. We knew that he was special the moment he first apologized to a peasant, but he keeps on growing and surprising us.
