CG quality has fallen dramatically since 2009 or so.

i mean with so many coming out the quality was bound to go south. Still, its been an impressive run of movies, to me though most are forgettable with the exception of a few. Iron Man, Thor 3 and the Avengers, everything else is mediocre.

on the flipside, movies are getting better
scores are getting higher, more people buying tickets, less people complaining online
the usual complaints of bad villains and rehashed plots are subsiding, and more people are praising it everyday

its not like even the middle movies were bad, they still got tons of praise, but they did have a distinct achilles heel, one which they seem addressing

the only people who seem to actively hate it are online grognards like on 4chan and DC fanboys

Industry standardization which grants efficiency, but also encourages laziness. It's not just CGI; we could chart the same decline in variety and detail in cartoons, anime, whatever have you. The good news is, it is getting better, but the average fare is bound to get blander until somebody comes along and pushes what we have to the limits of what can be done with it, as opposed to taking the path of least resistance and taking shortcuts.

I wouldn't say it's getting worse overall but the CGI really is getting pretty rough. Homecoming, Black Panther (last T'Challa vs. Killmonger fight in particular), and now judging by the trailers, Infinity War all look horrible in that department. I guess they figure there's no use spending too much on it if people will watch it anyway.

i've heard that less and less people are going to the theaters in general, althought might be false
plots and villains are still generic in general, with the other extreme being TLJ being the opposite to that : subversion of expectations for the sake of subversion

while i'm a dc fan, i have enjoyed marvel and often learn some small detail about their movies that i missed that really makes me have hope for them, but their movies are still too formulaic just like justic league was for that matter

Advances in computing and software has meant greater complexity, but it does nothing for artistry. Truly great artists have always been in short supply, while the number of cgi shots have increased. So what we end up with is just visual noise. For all of the "epic" battles Ready Player One had, did any of them equal the visceral intensity of the thoughtfully choreographed combat in, say, John Wick?

TLJ will now be my metric for a bad good movie. I can't completely hate it becaues plenty of scenes are expertly made and get their point across, but so much is undermined by idiotic choices in the narrative department. It's like someone took the time to intentionally make it bad, and that someone is Rian Johnson because he wanted to do something unexpected. Sadly, he succeeded.

That has more to do with politics behind the film then the actual film itself. Black Panther is one of the hundreds of movies that get made but will largely get forgotten to time as being just another action movie. It doesn't do anything particularly note worthy to be worth remembrance. It just has a larger than average amount of black people in it.

It's like comparing some Randy off the streets and a real actor like Wilem Dafoe when they're both given the same awful script. Obviously Dafoe will be favored for his performance since he's almost undeniable better than an everyday person.

Hiddleston and Keaton are great performers who made their 1 dimensional characters memorable through performance.
