Most of the growth of the protagonist is just learning how to effectively utilize the gift he is granted near the beginning, so in a fight Deku relies on being analytical, since at the start if he just punched someone he'd a) kill them, and b) break his arm in the process.
The animated season 1 has a very relaxed pace, and mostly functions as the groundwork, before opening up greatly in season 2 with the tournament arc everyone raves.
So, weigh your options, and decide if you don't mind investing time to get a decent look at it
