>>99834420>Most of the comic's attention being drawn away from the characters that actually matter in favor of shit fan characters was the worst. That's a problem with a lot of Sonic media, not just the SatAM cartoon or Archie comics. Sonic himself is an extremely limited character, especially with the limitations SEGA has put on how he can be written and drawn in recent years.
Look at Sonic X, where Sonic was reduced to being a guest character in his own series because there was next to nothing that could be done with him. So instead we got the Chris Thorndyke Show and the supporting game cast appeared more and did more than Sonic.
"I'm just a guy who loves adventure" is the singular summary of his character and writers aren't allowed to step outside of that box. He's incredibly boring and NEEDS a large supporting cast to prop his cardboard ass up. That works at first, but by the time you get to episode 52 or issue #187, the writers have no choice but to sideline the main character because he's SHIT and the supporting cast whom they've been permitted to develop are now ten times more vibrant and interesting.
It's why Mickey Mouse, Disney's mascot, fell out of favor and was supplanted by Donald, Goofy and literally anybody else. The restrictions on how he could be portrayed were so limiting that even goddamn Pluto became more interesting and multi-dimensional.
