Azula versus Zuko and Aang versus the Fire Lord in Avatar. Both aren't thematically bad, but they're really disappointing in how they ended. (i.e. Katara fucking up everything and magic rock, respectively.)

What is it about Western cartoons not killing villains? I know Kamen Rider kills the monster every week in Japan, and that's a kid's show.

i mean, they did that in power rangers, yeah it's super sentai adapted for the west but it was still done. Probably just needs to be done in a very cartoony way which is something that wouldn't have fit for the final fights in avatar.

You missed the point, it was meant to show that a shitty upbrising can destroy the self steem of a dude and break him into spineless, even if he is actualy capable. Emotional scars and all that, this is what contrast Dad with 0.

Fuck off 2 times more. "Huuur duuuur why dont Zuko defeats Azula". Who fucking cares if Zuko defeats her or not? Its not his arc, his arc was finished when he was willing to lose everything to protect the people that he fought against in the first place.

Why was Katara even there? If she wasn't there, he'd have been invulnerable! Instead, he ended up getting struck by lightning and she had to finish the fight in the dumbest way possible.

Couldn't he just have, you know, won that battle by himself?

Debatable. The toys and merchandise are aimed at kids, yeah, and some series are more childish than others, but KR in general has some pretty fucked up scenes and gruesome deaths throughout it.
