>>99285948Do you know Venom was originally insane? Like, not just "edgy" insane, but genuinely mentally handicapped. That was his canon characterization for all of his original appearances: he would laugh hysterically, jump from one extreme to another in a matter of seconds and obsess over things. That was the case in The Lethal Protector (which they're supposedly basing the movie off) as well. This got downright comical and impossible to take seriously sometimes, case in point his original motivation for hating Spidey, which is mocked to this day. Pic related was literally how he was originally redeemed, just by seeing that Spider-Man helped save a life, something that Spider-Man does every day. Apparently Venom was so retarded he didn't once think of that before.
Really, it wasn't until Venom started getting more limited series that his incredible autism was brought down a notch. But maybe that's just because all of his early ASM appearances were written by Michelinie who couldn't write subtlety to save his life (even his famous Demon In A Bottle is nowhere near subtle). But can you blame the man? He obviously came from the era when comic books were made for children primarily and never quite got out of that mindset.
So yeah they're not keeping Venom's original characterization, because it's not marketable. Thots want their Tom Hardy to be all brooding and hardcore, not inadequate and infantile.
