So what direction will Marvel go now that BP broke a billion? I don't think anyone at Disney or Marvel expected this to happen. Yes, a sequel is coming, but do you think Black Panther will be everyone in comics, leading events and frontlining posters? Will other black heroes be pushed into more prominent roles now?

hopefully they realize the success was because they invested in a director's vision and thus we'll get more marvel movies that feel like movies and not episodes in a series

It's clear BP had ten times more marketing than Thor or even Dr Strange.

This, even when the villain was reduced to being "pallate swap of the hero...so hes evil", hr was still abetter villain than damn near everyone but vulture. Give me a marvel movie directed by someone who cares about making a film and not following the studio's quip-filles formula

They wont really change. The system they used before is still working.

At most, Black Panthers success might help internally with discussions regarding superheroes who are POC. In particular, I could see BPs success leading to them exploring a Shang-Chi film for Asia.

I wouldn't mind seeing them explore their non-superhero comics for films away from the MCU. Millie The Model is just waiting for a 'Devil Wears Prada' type adaption among others. If the Disney buyout of FOX gets approved then I could see them having Marvel Studios continue the Kingsman franchise.

GL with that. Early MCU attempted that with Cap, Thor, etc. Once dollars proved quips were what sold and effort is too hard, all bets were off of unique voices being herd.

I'd expect 2 to double down on what 1 did and then 3 to throw quips at the wall and everything else MCU to make up for it.

If anything, I think the “must appeal to the black demographic” directive gave them more freedom to get rid of the normal Marvel movie checklist and do something interesting. I’d like to think that this result gives Marvel a reason to give directors more freedom in their decisions (at least when they have reason to believe the movie will pull big crowds) and less incentive to have EPs second guessing everything the creative staff do.

The film is honestly still great and all but jesus fucking christ the end fight scene was just so boring. What the fuck happened? Did Marvel just not give them enough money or are they spending most of it on Infinity War?

At least the "formulaic" Ant Man and Dr Strange had nice spectacle and flashy colors to keep you entertained.
