there's still a whole entire movie left in the trilogy. It's like complaining that Luke never completed his training or Han and Leia never got any resolution after seeing Empire Strikes Back. Luke may be "dead" at the end of TLJ but we know he's more than capable of carrying on as a Force Ghost, and with Carrie gone there's no way Episode IX has no members of the trio. With Han dead and Leia not being CGI'd in, that just leaves Luke.

Keep in mind JJ was the one who found a way to put Leonard Nimoy in his Star Trek reboot/prequel in a decent sized role. I'm sure he'd do the same with Mark/Luke. I know people here act like he hates Star Wars and wants to see it burn, but he is still a fanboy, whether you like what he did with the characters/TFA or not.

Which mirrors Luke and Yoda, but not totally.

There's so much more to work with if Luke kept his school alive on Ach'To.
Like maybe the students shun Rey when they find out she has a connection to Kylo. With Luke, as it is, it's not a big deal since she was never welcomed by him, he never wanted to teach her, and he had nothing to lose.
But if Luke was a teacher, and he had a bunch of students in which Rey was the newest, suddenly her being connected to Kylo means a lot. Like what if she corrupts some other students like Kylo once did with the Knights of Ren?
What if the students push her to the Dark Side like Kylo might have been?

I like Finn's character but he does not act at all like someone who was indoctrinated as a child and stayed that way for 20 years. That concept of a Stormtrooper going AWOL almost deserves its own side story but he's almost just a comic relief character which is a shame.

I don't think he will because there's an entire book about Thrawn and Vader coming out later this year and we know Zahn finished it ages ago so Lucasfilm must've decided to push it back to be released after Rebels. The only reason I can think of why they would do that is because it takes place after Rebels. Otherwise why not just release it last summer or whatever when we had no new content for a while

Recently saw an interview of Frank Oz. The host asked him why Yoda spoke the way he does. Apparently only a few of Yoda's lines were like this originally, but Oz wanted more of them to be that way so that it would be a consistent pattern. Because the Empire was designed as a huge, oppressive, omnipresent force while the FO is more like a rogue military. The Empire was evil because it used its unlimited resources and authority to brutally oppress people, there was nothing bigger or "outside" the Empire's reach, it was everywhere. That's what made the rebel cause so desperate, they were trying to fight against something that controlled the entire Galaxy. Whereas the FO doesn't really govern anything, they have a lot of guns and storm troopers, but they don't embody the same kind of dominating presence the Empire had. They're more like a Space ISIS than a space Nazi Germany.

So this is something I've been thinking about, we know that Holdo didn't share the plan with Poe, but did she not share it with anyone else? Could he not ask around? Billie Lourd's character was on the bridge with Holdo, and she seemed close with Leia, could she just not ask and relay the info? What's the source on this? Because there is no way that the other high ranking officers would go along with that, that's insane, especially with the FO behind them, firing at them constantly. The screwy thing is that the audience got to see clip from the bridge of the First Order ships, but the audience wasn't allowed to know Holdo's plans. This would have only made sense if Holdo was genuinely acting as a traitor as that was the twist. Instead the eventual plan was just a last minute convenient ass pull.

The movie never says outright, but when Poe goes to the bridge after their second cruiser was destroyed and finds out about the transports being fueled up, no one looks like they have any idea what is going on. Everyone looks incredibly confused. I mean, yeah, if we just ignore all facial expressions, then you could say everyone but Poe knew the plan, but that's fucking stupid. Why else show everyone looking confused if they AREN'T supposed to be confused.

I figured that the plan was really need-to-know only. They literally couldn't risk it getting out. The First Order was tracking them through hyperspace, for all they knew they could've been listening in on their comms waiting to hear something. Poe and Holdo didn't even meet until she was promoted. Why should she have told him? He didn't need to know. If the plan required Poe doing something, she'd have told him. I don't get why this is so difficult for people to understand.

Poe was 100% justified in doing what he did and it is entirely Holdo's fault. Holdo's speech was terrible for morale, she was basically telling everybody they were going to die, that's certainly how Poe took it. So when Poe goes to her and asks for some sign that she has a real plan, and she doesn't tell him anything and just says words to the effect of "shut up and do what I say", what is he supposed to think? Blindly obeying suicidal orders is not what the resistance is about. In fact defying authority when it is obviously wrong and immoral is the ENTIRE CREDO of the rebellion/resistance. So how could Poe do nothing when he sees his commanding officer apparently consigning their whole fleet, all his friends, to death without any kind of plan to save them? He took action.

And if Holdo didn't want Poe to act independently and potentially fuck up her plan that she refused to tell him, she could've just thrown him in jail. If ANYBODY in the entire fleet was gonna do something reckless and fuck up her plan, it was Poe. Since she apparently didn't have any intention of telling him, why did she just let him run around like a loose canon?

Her actions make no sense.

I thought it was a great movie that was refreshing after TFA played it so safe. Each episode of the main saga should introduce new ideas and concepts, or do new things with characters and storylines that aren't "safe" choices. TFA failed for the most part in this regard, but TLJ suceeded. There are a lot of misfires. I don't have an issue with Leia pulling herself back into the ship in concept, in fact I really like the idea of it, but I think the execution and way it was shot was stupid. I wasn't big on Finn's storyline. I loved Rey a lot more in TLJ, and everything with her, Luke, Kylo Ren, Snoke, & Hux was fantastic. I have no issue with Luke's characterization. I get why people would be upset by it at first but there's a lot more depth to it than just "Luke is a depressed hermit" or however people who hate it have oversimplified it. Same with him "trying to murder his nephew". It's a lot more complicated than that. And especially with how Luke's arc ultimately ended, with him taking down the First Order on his own with just his laser sword (and without even leaving his fucking chair on the other side of the galaxy!) and finding peace & purpose before becoming one with the Force, having become the legend of Luke Skywalker and spreading hope to the galaxy once more (as seen in the final scene with the kids).

All in all, I think time will be really kind to The Last Jedi. The reactionary cultural landscape we're in with social media has prevented people from chewing it over and letting it settle before forming a real opinion beyond "IT RUINED STAR WARS".

This article is beautifully written and does a good job explaining why Luke's characterization in TLJ is perfect. I touched on it briefly but the article really goes deep into it. Ignore the clickbait headline, it's stupid and off-putting:

The Force Awakens is good storytelling on a technical level. It's objectively a good screenplay, same with A New Hope. Well, A New Hope is genuinely perfect storytelling from start to finish. The 3rd act of TFA is definitely weaker than it could've been, but the first 40 minutes are fantastic storytelling and filmmaking. It's when Han shows up and the movie has to suddenly be a sequel to Return of the Jedi rather than the first part of a new trilogy/story that it begins to falter. It's still leagues better than every other modern blockbuster in terms of craft, though.

I'm just speaking technically, though. The film as a whole and larger implications it has on the lore may have been shit, but the script/storytelling itself is great. And I'm intentionally using "storytelling" rather than "story" for a reason.

Matrix Revolutions had this issue when they wanted a shit ton of Agent Smiths. turns out it is extremely hard to fine that many people with the same build. Yeah, they might be the same height, but their proportions can be way off from one another.

You know, when I was a kid, I always imagined the Clone Wars was some kind of weird ass war where some headcase cloned a shitload of different people intending to replace the entire human race, one clone at a time. Some master race shit. With a lot of spygame shenanigans with people being abducted and replaced by clones, subservient to whoever was running the show. The cinematography is pretty good, but the color pallet leaves something to be desired.
Can you imagine if VII, VIII, or even Rogue One looked this dour?

I'm still cautiously optimistic about the story and plot.
