I feel like This Old Dog did move into more of a legitimate 70s classic yacht rock or singer-songwriter feel, almost Greatful Dead-esque in parts. Also a little more nakedly emotional and lyrically blunt. His style is very defined but every release is a little bit different in tone.
I do feel that for the next one either he’s going to get more raucous and garage-y like in his Makeout Videotape days or he’s going to go all out on the minimal analog synth sound of tracks like “Chamber of Reflection” or “For the First Time”, I don’t see him retreating further into really simple acoustic stuff, don’t know how much more mileage is there. I would also kind of like the far-fetched notion of him making more complex classic-style rock and going full Steely Dan or some shit
