The Fugitoid, robot body housing the brain of alien scientist Prof. Honeycutt (voiced in this series by David Tennant) uses his vessel and advanced knowledge of science to transport the Turtles, April, and Casey a year into their own past to traverse the universe in order to prevent the Triceraton's from assembling the weapon they use on Earth.
They fail to do this, but do manage to return to Earth in time to team up with their time doubles and prevent Earth's destruction... The turtles that time traveled stay, while their non-traveled selves close the time loop by leaving with Honeycutt.
This change in the timeline leads to Shredder's greatest defeat, leading him down the course of self-mutation in the hopes of finally getting his ultimate revenge on Splinter... Which he kinda sorta does...
The mutates Super Shredder kills Splinter in this show, then Leo cuts his head off and leaves the rest in an inferno.
