Google has blacklisted NG from it's AD network for being a competitor as an attempt to kill it.
The fact that it still survives as a bastion of creativity and art in an age of over-monetized and greed driven content fomulas and that it's creator still talks with and looks out for his community on a daily basis(more than can be said of 4chan) speaks wonders about it.

The community is very friendly and easily pleased, just don't expect helpful feedback too often, it's mostly "Good job" type of comments.
