>>97798731>I feel on rewatches it's comedy is to referential to the time it was madeI think it's the least guilty of this compared to all the Shrek movies, partially because it wasn't relying as much on the fairytale parody element as the first movie. The most you see of it in Shrek 2 is just potshots at the vapid Hollywood lifestyle through the Fairy Godmother and her lackeys, and not only did they get a lot of mileage out of these but I think it helped to make The Fairy Godmother a great villain.
I do think plenty of the movie references are a little cringy and that's one of my problems with the overall franchise.
But we agree it's the best and that's fine by me.
