Yellow Diamond's entourage, Doc, and Pearl saw Rose shatter Pink Diamond with her sword. But Bismuth, the creator of Rose's Sword, confirmed that it's not capable of shattering gems, only disrupting their forms.

That doesn't necessarily mean she wasn't shattered. Someone else could have done it disguised as Rose, using a different sword, or Rose herself used a different sword, or Bismuth wasn't being truthful about the sword. There could be a shatter function in the hilt or something.

The exact circumstances of the shattering are up in the air, but so far everyone in the show, including eye witnesses, claims she was shattered.

The real question is which Diamond did it. The obvious answer is Yellow, the weird answer would be White, the stupid answer is Blue and the interesting answer is Pink herself.

I personally am in the corner of "Pink shattered herself". I think she cared for Earth and was nicer than they're making her out to be, and she was the one behind the whole plot to have herself "assassinated".
Exactly why she'd do it isn't clear, but it'd just be a more interesting answer than just "Yellow did it cause she's power hungry"

i have another theory, that fits in the shows overall theme and plot in regards to the gem culture

and that is, it was Pearl who did it. It was covered up because it would destroy their entire cattle system if gems were to find out that a simple pearl, someone on the far lowest scale on their hierarchy, is able to shatter a gem, it would cause chaos. This is why pearl is so shaken whenever the shattering is being mentioned, because she herself did it and Rose took the blame to became a Martyr to the cause. Pearl is also the one who uses regular swords.

I have no idea of who shattered PD, how or why (I mean, I still watch the show just to discover this once and for all), but what I'm pretty sure about is that all the hybrid gem-organic stuff rose has grown throughout the ages (that flowering mold and shit) was done with the shards of PD's gem. How this could be in any way important I don't know.

Dude, an answer that 'obvious' is obviously a red herring. Not even scooby doo mysteries point out the main suspect like and and have it turn out to be them all along. It's never that simple. I'm baffled as to why so many people think Yellow did it. It goes against the basic conventions of most murder mysteries. I know SU doesn't like to go with conventions but I'd bet my life savings that it would not be Yellow.

The problem with either conspiracy theory is that Rose and the CGs accepted the blame, and still claim PD was a monster. If it was Yellow/White pulling some evil shit and Rose was blameless, why didn't they tell Steven? They'd have no reason to repeat a HW lie. If it was some zero requiem suicide shit to protect the planet and she was actually nice, again, why not tell Steven. They have no reason to subject him to whatever ruse was being pulled, and it wouldn't have mattered once HW was back and attacking the planet anyway.

I think Yellow's reaction in a trial was a misdirection. People are making the same mistake Peridot did and thinking she's this calculating super genius, but she's a total hothead. She wasn't trying to cover up the conspiracy, she was genuinely impatient and pissed off at Zircon's scandalous accusation.

And what would she be trying to convince Blue of anyways? That she's innocent? Blue doesn't, in any way, suspect Yellow. The point of the song was to help Blue get out of her depression funk and Yellow melancholy singing to herself doesn't help in that objective at all.

Some other people think she shattered Blue and is feeling regretful over it, but honestly I doubt Steven Universe would go down that route.

Also there's the other obvious clue that in real life it's a common piece of trivia that only diamonds can cut other diamonds i.e. it was Yellow Diamond who did it, not Rose.
I think nowadays viewers are too paranoid about there always being some sort of elaborate plot twist and so they overthink things and miss the less elaborate real plot twist that was right in front of them. Like in this case. The plot twist is Rose was innocent and Yellow Diamond is the Scar from Lion King type character who killed her fellow diamond and passed the blame off on Rose. They made this so obvious in the trial episode that I think it's motivated a lot of you to imagine this is some sort of compound fakeout, which I'm almost 100% certain it isn't. Making it a second layer of fakeout would make that whole trial episode with the lawyer's epiphany completely inane and meaningless, not to mention they already gave Yellow Diamond a villain song where the entire point of it was her trying to get Blue Diamond to stop asking questions about the murder. Just come on already, it's not even really a mystery anymore, it's just a matter of time before they go into the details of how Yellow Diamond did it.

That looked like a pretty obviously fake expression of sadness to shut Blue up. It lasted like two seconds and did exactly what it was meant to: make Blue stop asking questions, sympathize with Yellow Diamond, and switch gears to discussing their future plans.
Most dishonest Disney villains made more of an effort to appear sympathetic and/or sad than Yellow Diamond did there.

Shapeshifting would only fool the absolute dumbest of gems (granted, the one witness we've actually seen in the show was one of them) because it doesn't change color. It'd be a yellow Rose with an abnormally large gem in her torso.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was just a shapeshifted gem that looked vaguely like a Rose. Hell, it could be five opossums in a tarp and a Ruby would believe it was Rose.

I don't wanna use that image because there are many other reasons to consider a fact that Rose is PD but yeah you may take it in count. Rose isn't in that image because she was playing to be PD "the evil diamond" at the same time that she was moving the rebels as Rose.

Rose/PD probably just used the body of one of the rose quartz soldiers just like Steven can take the bodies of his watermelons. Rose being PD is the excuse to make a happy ending where rebels and Homeworld make peace.
