I understand the "immigrant" logic but lots of the non-whites who got French nationality did so a long-ass back. And then you had the people originally from France who had colonized Algeria and whose descendants came back to France, the whole "Pied Noir" identity that is a large part of the north African immigration to France, but they were clearly influenced by north African culture and often mixed with them. And then you've got the "colonies", the numerous islands populated by descendants of slaves mixed with various people to various degrees, they also represent a large part of the non-white French population. This isn't last 20 years history, the first black French citizens existed centuries ago.
It's not as easy, or certainly not as new, as it seems.
