Finn and FP is in fact one of the best ships in the cartoon, they have chemistry a funny and creative dynamic and they are very cute, a very original ship. Sugar had a great idea when she made this character and I consider Incendium (her debut) like one of the best episodes of the entire series.
The problem with this ship and their development is the same that all the other shows of this generations, writers becomes very conflicting and they end driving the story by many different sides. I have heard that Pendletton broke with Sugar and he tried to represent it with Finn breaking with Flame Princess.

I getting really curious about OTGW's writers and how they think because it seems like there was a difference of opinions about the ending (He wanted Wirt to stays in The Unknown) and he said in an interview that he talked about the ending with another writer (I don't remember if this was Natasha or Amalia) and this discussion/conversation was represented in an episode of SU called "Open Book". I like McHale's ending more but sometimes this difference of opinions make a little conflict in the message or development of the main character.
