>>97092728Imagine how fucking torturous it would have been to write the comics if they had been mandated to strictly follow game canon (instead of the opposite, SEGA hardly providing them any details of their games until they hit retail shelves + outright forbidding them from adapting games/elements until years had passed since they launched)
They'd have to completely rejig the comic when Sonic Adventure happened. That launched in September 1999 in America, by the that time already EIGHTY damn comics have been published and despite the tenuous connections of the classic era and Adventures, it would basically mean rebooting the whole comic.
Then you get Adventure 2 and it completely changes the tone of the games plus introduces a boat load of new characters, the most important one you be expected to write about thought to be stone dead.
Then you'd have to retcon shit as Heroes comes out and leaves a completely ambiguous mystery on if Shadow is real or a clone or a robot and write around that, but of course you could answer that shit, so you'd be stuck in unsatisfying writing limbo until when/if SEGA ever decided to resolve that.
Then you've got the whole mess of Shadow the Hedgehog 2005 and Sonic 06. Also completely changing the tone of the series.
Then it bounces back to colors a tonal whiplash and silly goofy stories as Sonic is trying to be Mario suddenly.
You even see these problems in the latter Archie comics as they tried to make Generations canon and implied real fucking hard Classic Sonic was 'younger Sonic' when surprise surprise no he fucking wasn't. It would have been a fucking incoherent mess trying to follow the games and their characters.
