What's your favourite big blue book, /co/? Mine is probably either Secret Origin or Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow. Secret Origin hits all the marks of 'muh superman', and I love Whatever Happened for it's style and being such a perfect bookend for the character.

For a first Superman book altogether, check out Secret Origin. If you're just looking for some quality stories of his after that, All Star Superman is the easy rec, Coming of the Supermen is good fun and patently ridiculous. Try hopping into the currently ongoing Superman Rebirth at vol 1 because I personally think it's pretty damn great.

I saw the movie yesterday and I thought it looked like they are starting to get there (way too late, of course, but still). He's still a bit stiff and the moment where he came back failed to do whatever it was supposed to do, because I can't really tell if it was supposed to be intimidating or funny, but there were a few really nice moments in the movie where he was warm and friendly.

I know Jurgens gets a lot of flack here, but he is one of my favorite Lois Lane writers since the triangle era.

Rucka, Jurgens, Morrison and Millar are four writers that have a good understanding of Superman and it's supporting cast, even with, as writers, they are all very different in their approaches.

Jurgens does pretty mediocre plots but understands the characters and their voices pretty well. Which is honestly common in a lot of my favorite cape comics.

For the Man Who Has Everything is probably my favorite Superman book, as well as being my favorite Alan Moore book.

Golden Age Supes gets old and dies. Mainstream Supes lives forever and eventually ascends to godhood.

I liked the idea that originally Superman slowly got more powerful as he aged, not reaching the power of regular Superman until he was in his 50's, and mainstream Superman is pretty much at full power by the time he's a boy.
