Apply this to a 12? 13 year old? (how old was steven during smokey quarts) with amethyst and you very quickly begin falling down a hole of really uncomfortable questions like, "Should a 13 year old be romantically involved with someone who is several thousand times older than him be in a relationship?" Because Amethyst had every opportunity to and DID learn human culture and have EXTENSIVE contact with humans (Buddy's book) and even if we IGNORE all that, there is the amount of human interaction, culturally, she had with close actual human friends before steven was born, and continued to have sometime after (vidalia and greg.) She has no reason to not know better and to not understand that there's a certain age of emotional, mental and physical maturity for a romantic relationship and that for humans, taking advantage of that can really harm a human's emotional development.
Ignoring Amethyst. Pretending that she isn't cuplable:
Pearl and Garnet reacted with elation and jubilation when they learned that a 14 year old just got diddled by a 3000 year old space rock. If Amethyst didn't know better, PEARL OR GARNET would have questioned Steven's relationship with amethyst ala fusion.
Importantly: Pearl understood the concept of a monogamous relationship as she felt greg took rose from her or was taking her from her when they first met. Pearl would understand how _CONNIE_ might feel about this fusing thing with amethyst while steven and connie were already in a committed relationship, as she tried to hurt greg by doing the exact same thing out of jealousy and spite towards him.
Connie would (or should) most assuredly feel betrayed by steven going behind her back and fusing with amethyst willy-nilly like that while they were already in a relationship, and Pearl KNOWS THIS.
Or else fusion isn't solely an analogy for a relationship that's romantic or sexual and can sometimes just be two people fused via a similar emotion.
