I'm really not the kind of person that passionately hates things. Most of the time the most I can muster is apathy towards things I don't like.

But this show.
This motherfucking piece of irredeemable dogshit.
This fucking insult makes Family Guy look good.

You can take your "BUT THE EPISODE ORDER" and blow it out your fucking ass. I watched seven episodes and EVERY SINGLE EPISODE is fucking crap. You should be ashamed of yourself if you defend this fucking dreck.

Not OP, but Ducktales feels off to me too.

I appreciate some of the things they did- Webby and Beakley are infinitely more interesting- but the original series felt more sincere in its love of adventure.

Everything in DT2017 feels a bit insincere, a bit too winking at the audience, a bit too "caring about stuff is lame, right guys??"

Scrooge is a supporting character and spends most of his time in the B plot, if he appears in the episode at all. And yeah yeah, "MUH EPISODE ORDER", but even if what was left of the season focused entirely on Scrooge, that's still sidelining Scrooge for a third of the entire season. That's inexcusable.

Every single character mugs for the camera at all times. There is no straight man, there is no sense of wonder or awe, there are no moments where anyone takes things the slightest bit seriously, there is only quip after quip after quip. Everyone talks as loudly and as quickly as they possibly can. It's the cartoon equivalent of a shitty comedy movie where the actors are encouraged to improv as much as possible.

The kids collectively are a dumpster fire. The writers jerk off Webby whenever she's on screen and the boys are incompetent at best, outright dishonest at worst, which is completely antithetical to what Uncle Scrooge is all about. In the comics Donald and Gladstone are lazy, not dishonest. Dishonesty is what separates them from Magica and the Beagle Boys, the villains that want to get rich without doing any actual hard work.

Speaking of, where the fuck is the treasure hunting, or defending the Money Bin from hoodlums? Scrooge cares about two things: Getting money and keeping it. When every episode is pointless sitcom bullshit, Scrooge doesn't have anything to do other than grumble in the background.

And this is a small thing but god damn is the animation disappointing. I was hoping for something like the amazingly good Mickey Mouse shorts that Disney's been doing the last few years. This looks like the kind of C-grade animation you would see on Sunday night on Fox.

There's probably more but that's what I can think of off the top of my head. This show has no upside, but that's not why I hate it. I hate it because it's also grating as all hell. It's the animation equivalent of a five year old that desperately wants your attention.

It sucks because Mark Beaks is EXACTLY the kind of threat I'd love to see comic Scrooge face.

Imagine it. Some new App comes out. It's a hit. Scrooge writes it off as a fad, but it weaves itself into the fabric of society. It's used by journalists, politicians, students, teachers, children, parents- it revolutionizes the way people communicate.

Scrooge realizes he can capitalize on this, but too late. His App doesn't have the userbase, nor is it as innovative. Mark Beak's value continues to rise.

Then, it happens. That terrible day. Mark Beaks overtakes Scrooge in wealth.

Scrooge storms into Beaks' office. He wants to look into the eyes of his greatest enemy.

Beaks needs the situation explained to him. He doesn't understand, at first. Finally, Scrooge out and out tells him he's the new richest man in the world.

And Mark Beaks just shrugs, says "That's nice", and gets back to whatever gadget he's fiddling with.

And that's when it hits Scrooge. Beaks did something Glomgold, the Beagle Boys, Magica, or Rockerduck could never do: beat him. And it's far worse.

If it was any of his old foes, he could revel in the drama a bit. He could simmer in anger at Glomgold, or devise a way to outsmart the Beagle Boys. But he can't do that to Beaks.

Beaks beat him utterly. And he didn't even notice.

He doesn't even care.

How do you think that'd make Scrooge feel?

I think it'd make him feel very, very old.

I'm willing to except the fact that I'm one of the few people on this board that enjoys this show and I'm more than happy to let people have their opinions but this is a way better reboot than Powerpuff Girls and there's nothing you can say to convince me otherwise.

This is a great way of putting it. The show pretends to have a heart at times, but it just rings completely hollow. Nothing in the show comes off as genuine.

You can say that again. I like the pilot conceptually, where Donald and the boys meet Scrooge for the first time. I love the idea of the nephews getting to know Scrooge over time, slowly uncovering more and more of his past as it starts to relate to their present.

It's just that the execution of that present is completely awful and the writers have no idea what they're doing. The best they can muster is shallow callbacks to old Scrooge comics and other Disney Afternoon shows.

If they had some instance of Donald and the boys seeming out of place in their interactions with the mansion folk it'd feel more like a real show. If they spent an episode or two at the beginning showing the guys adjusting to living in a mansion before they went on the jetsetting world adventures you'd feel it. This literally feels like you're already supposed to know who everyone is and their dynamics together without giving you any of that development. They literally just put all the characters together in the pilot and went "right, this is ducktales now, right?"

It reminds me of what they did with the new ghostbusters where they didn't earn their stripes they just pushed them as quickly as possible into the roles you expect them to have. Like in NuGB there's no reason for them to have the firehouse other than that it was iconic in the original series. Nothing feels earned in these reboots. It's just kinda shallow "HEY REMEMBER THINGS? HERE ARE THINGS BASED ON THAT. REMEMBER?"

There's a reason we love the original DT cast, and so far nobody has shown any of those qualities. Even Donalds rage spaz outs feel forced. That recent gladstone episode was bullshit with donald getting mad. He should just kept getting more and more pissed at gladstone and raged his way into a spite win, not get told off by the kids into lucking out.

The writing just feels really lazy.

Gravity Falls was decent not brilliant, up until the Unicorn episode where it looked like they were finally going to give mabel some development and make her face up to her shitty behaviour and instead the show shit the bed completely by having her literally fuck over the purest animal in existence because she felt she was unfairly judged when in fact she was told the truth in that she was undeserving of the thing because she was a shitty person.

That entire episode looked like it was setting mabel up to learn about herself and realise she was a shitty sister and develop. Instead she literally rolls up, outright steals and brags about it, and fucks off. And the show REWARDS HER for it and acts like she was in the right. it's inexcusable to do this and expect the audience to still like mabel. They wrote her really badly at the end.

And then the ending was a letdown.

But seriously, if they wrote Mabel intentionally to be a bitch then mission accomplished but seriously there are kids who idolise her and think that she was right and it's acceptable behaviour. That's just a bad character. That's a bad role model and it means I can't support GF or recommend it any more.

Wasted potential is worse than outright bad works. At least we can laugh at PPG and make "animation error" blogs. There's no salvaging that show, so we don't care. We just spend time pointing out GoAnimate designs and laughing.

TTG is at least drastically different enough from the original and has funny enough scripts that it can find a new audience, ignoring the schedule issues.

DuckTales is nothing. It started out with promise and became generic. It's down the middle forgettable cartoon with no voice, no style, nothing memorable despite the original being one of the defining cartoons of the 90's Saturday Morning era. It's a shame the original cartoon was made by passionate people who wanted to prove that a cartoon could benefit from a higher budget and syndication and the new one is made by people who seem to use TVTropes to write all their scripts and characters.

To add on to this list, I am incredibly disappointed with how the show turned out too. My favorite episodes from the original Ducktales was when they will explore new lands, new locations and find treasure. It felt like a mixture of Indiana Jones and Tin-Tin. But in the DT2017, it mostly takes place in Duckburg. Once in a while is alright but so far, 2 out of the 7 episodes was an actual adventure (and my favorite episodes so far) while the others was all in Duckburg (which was 'meh' at most). I love watching the adventure and seeing the new lands the show has to offer like "Hotel Strangeduck" or "The Land of Trala La" with the interesting people and things they encounter. Being set in duckburg with mundane events like, "going to Chuck E Cheese" or "Finding Scrooges Coin" doesn't seem so exciting (even though a lot of crazy stuff happens in those episodes).

Second, Webby is way too much of a main character in this then Scrooge or the triplets. When I heard that David Tennant is playing Scrooge, I was worried because I knew that he will be too pricey to call in for voice casting for every episode and it shows. He barely appears at all in the show with Webby and the three boys being the central characters. Speaking of Webby, why is she the central character for every episode so far. She is practically a Mary Sue who is good at everything and her only faults is being socially awkward. And her emo friend is annoying who does nothing but cause trouble, get in trouble and have to wait for webby to save her. Each time she appears on screen, I just think of a tumblerite who is in a middle of a phase. The triplets are pretty much in the background with hardly any character development from them. They have to be dumb and incompetent so that Webby can shine.

I thought that bringing back Donald and having all the references to the original comic means that they will be going back into their roots but it was actually the opposite.

TV animation is a fucking quagmire right now with precious few exceptions rising above the cesspool, and even most of the ones that do are still smeared with shit. I blame the sensibilities of the majority of people currently working in TV animation, along with lack of experience both in the field and in life. All they know of life is what they've soaked up from the internet, and good fucking lord does it show.

I hated Ocarina of Time when it came out because I had played Spyro the Dragon and thought it was just overall way better. That doesn't mean that OoT is factually a trash game or that it had no importance when it first came out.

This is exactly right. Rather than putting in the work to get people to care about the characters they themselves are writing, they leech on people's nostalgia and just assume that people care to start with.

The 2014 Ninja Turtles reboot did the same damn thing. The movie had a scene where Shredder and Splinter are staring daggars at each other and in the context of the movie itself they had literally never met before.

as Scrooge's fortune grows, he hires Gyro (former Mark Beaks employee) to help him go into the new century with technology, & after that happens, Beaks finally begins to notice him. It's not because their finances are changing, but because Gyro's able to make things without any restrictions, and his tech is more advanced than anything Beaks comes up with

it can even delve into Scrooge & Beaks having a one-upsmanship contest by constantly making new tech that's either making their old products obsolete or is too impractical to be a success

I don't really mind Webby being hypercompetent, since there is a legit reason in-universe, but I don't like her having the spotlight on literally all episodes.
I hate what they did to the boys. They are so USELESS. Splitting their personality to three characters was a good idea but they also took out everything that made them competent.
Scrooge is my favourite character of all time. As a comic-fag, he was always the main character, in my opinion. We called them "Donald Duck comics" but fuck, Scrooge was the one we all loved. Seeing him shoehorned into what is essentially cameo role is disgusting.
Glomgold is too comical and incompetent.
Magica seems to be too competent and mean.
The Beagle boys are utter shit. Comic Beagles are so much better that it's honestly sad.

No, the logic is that BvS is more upsetting because it's wasted potential in comparison to The Room which had no potential (Ignoring it's cult fanbase that loves how bad it is).

You people have too many characters. I know saying that's probably some kind of sacrilege considering the franchise's long and storied history, but the amount of revolving main characters, recurring side characters, and significant background characters that they've jammed in in the 8 or 9 episodes so far makes my head spin and makes me think that no one other than Webby, Bluey, and Reddy are every going to get a satisfying amount of screen time.

I'm not fundamentally opposed to a Venture Bros-tier menagerie or important recurring characters and I certainly support the idea that all characters that you use should feel important enough to use again, but they need to give it some time to grow and not just unload everything all at once.

I hadn't really been able to articulate why the kids annoy me so much but now that I think about it, it's really got the same problem the Ghostbusters reboot had. Everyone's trying so damn hard to be funny and it's just killing it. Comedy when it's done right should feel natural. Like the "Picking up or dropping off line?" from the original Ghostbusters. It's short sweet and delivered like this is just a normal part of the day. Janine doesn't get a closeup so she can wiggle her eyebrows at the camera to let everyone know just how smart the line was. She doesn't banter back and forth, the cops don't try to one up the line and get the real laugh. The line just hits. It has the fewest possible amount of moving parts and lets it sink in just long enough for the laugh and then the movie goes forward. Ducktales isn't as bad about it as the reboot was but that element is definitely there. Everyone's trying to pull focus and that ends up making everyone feel like a blob of anti-comedy.

They really have not. They've lost the plot on what makes a character a character and in addition they have far far too many episodes set in one place.

They seem to have set out to make a comedy show but who really wanted that? The comedy could use a lot of work as well, it mostly just falls flat.

Scrooge, Donald, and Launchpad are put to the side for the most part because they don't need to be sold. The new personality of the triplets and Webby need to be sold. The new personalities would be hampered heavily if it was just "Scrooge and Donald go on adventures but the kids are wildly different for some reason, I don't get them."

Over a year ago when they announced the voice actors for the kids, every person on the planet respectfully told Disney that they were making a mistake and should not go through with this. Don Rose hates/hated (sort of, "had issues with") the ORIGINAL Ducktales cartoon for not being the comics and has said he only watched a few minutes of the reboot and didn't like it either, but he hardly saw enough to judge or give it a chance. He ALREADY did not like original DT, famously. Or okay "had issues with" or "said it was nothing like the comics" for original Ducktales. I think that's objectively wrong and dishonest. At worst the show is mediocre and forgettable. There's much worse on right now.

I would like the show to get better, and have more to recommend it than jokes that for a kids' show are pretty funny. I agree that there's nothing to care about in the show yet if you remove the nostalgia. It's too tongue-in-cheek all the time right now.

I think just a little bit of sincerity will help it. Right now, people feel bad for Donald, that's probably the best place to get it. And they sort of set the Donald and Scrooge relationship up for being the center. Maybe the Lena plot with Magica, it just seems so obvious right now that she'll turn "good" without real conflict, but that could change.

This is a big part of it too. I know this show is primarily for kids, but it feels so soft. Hell, DWD had constant action, slapstick comedy, clever writing, and childen in legitimate danger. In this show you never fear for anyones life and the conflict is never an issue because Webby always wins in the end. Even little things like the artstyle make DT 2017 feel so lifeless (always strictly on model, lack of movement, bland backgrounds, ect). Pretty much. Have the bad guy use several schemes that the hero has to foil, or one big scheme with multiple contingencies. The Beagles, Magica, Glomgold etc are always beaten in the comics and the old cartoon. But they still present interesting threats because they have some base factor that can't be easily overpowered through, on top of whatever dumb/crazy/interesting plan/s they have for the episode. If you have an enemy with a core concept like "multiple strong goons with a strong mother brain" and then undermine the numbers and strength, you've kind of wasted your own idea.

I don't have a problem with that. You convey the strength, and a character exploits it to find the weakness. It's when you decide your characters should have an action scene and be able to beat multiple goons anyway, that you question why the need to set them up as a threat that can't just be manhandled.

That's not always the case. Many Adult Swim shows had lots of exposure (Aqua Teen, Boondocks) and there aren't tons of contrarians who go to those threads to shit them up. /co/ hates things that have annoying fanbases, not simply if they're popular. It's why you have more threads about "Fuck Rick & Morty" than "Fuck Family Guy" even though FG is technically far more popular than R&M.

And when VB does air, the threads usually get stickied and reach 500 replies within the 30 min timespan. It's pretty popular on /co/ when it does air. The fans are just not obnoxious enough to make outsiders hate it.

Why would they do that if they already have matriarch Ma Beagle, who's already an old woman? Guy would be stuck in a roll chair.

Yes? As opposed to 40 minute chunks? The entirety ending of Civil War is a 15-minute long serious fight with no jokes thrown in. Even Doctor Strange had comedy problems and it still managed to have isolated scenes of him talking to the Ancient One as she's dying uninterrupted with no jokes. Thor and Loki listen to Odin talk as he's about to die and none of them crack a joke. They know when to pull their punches, and they don't do it as infrequently as you think with the exception of a couple of movies (Ultron is agreed to be the worst in this regard). They're action-comedies with drama thrown in, not the other way around.

Where did you get that? I said FG gets better ratings and sells more merchandise than R&M thus making it more popular but there are way more threads where people shit on R&M because that show has a louder fanbase that /co/ hates.

If the scale of how much /co/ hates a show was purely based on popularity, than Simpsons would be hated way more than Steven Universe because Simpsons is technically more popular. There is a direct correlation to popularity and fanbase.

I'm pretty fucking sure there are serious and dramatic runs on Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, X-Men, Hulk, Spider Man and the rest were the characters are in a place where they struggle with conflict and difficult decisions they have to make. Did you ever think about the fact that the reason why the DCEU is a failure is because they put all of their faith in a director who's pretentious moron whose movies are overly bleak, badly written, and pieces of shit, and that they want to be marvel so badly that they rushed into everything, which is biting them so hard in the ass that they tried to make an Avengers style movie 4 movies in that will most likely be a mess as well? Through the Disney Comics imprint and later, Gemstone publishing, all the Disney comics were cornered for the Direct Market, IE, adult collectors. You know, the kinda sad sack who sticks their comics in mylar bags and darent touch them?

There were some perks to this: we got the really keen Treasury Editions, full size reproductions of Barks, Rosa, Gottfriedson, and other stories with scholarly analysis. We also got the really great Life and Times of Scrooge album and its companion, which had commentary and additional art by Don Rosa. My dog earred copy is one of my most prized possessions.

But here's the problem with that. The comics weren't in front of kids. Kids could go into any grocery store or convenience store in America and get 150 pages of Archie comics, or the latest issue of Sonic, for three to five bucks. Easy pocket change. But Duck and Mouse comics? Those were tucked away into dark comic stores for twenty plus bucks a pop. It was the dumbest thing they could have done, because kids who would ENJOY these stories never knew they existed, while adult collectors turned their noses up at them and went back to hoarding X Men and Death of Superman. It was ridiculous.

But what Disney comics DID reach kids? The ones in Disney Adventures, the disney kid's aimed magazine, and the ones Marvel licensed in the mid 90s. And what were these comics based on? You guessed it: Ducktales.

It's easy to blame ignorant Americans for not knowing Barks or Rosa, but the bigger fault is on Disney for thinking their Children's adventure comics would only interest adults.

Yes, runs, the equivalent of scenes or installments in a movie. And "runs" to an audience of a niche medium in the States that has thousands of other runs to pick from. A person who doesn't want a serious Captain America has a lifetime supply of silly Cap comics they CAN chose from.

Movies don't fucking work the same way and they have to reach a wider audience. If they put a 24/7 serious Cap, that's going to be the Cap we get until MCU dies or reboots. Instead, we have "runs" of Cap being serious (Civil War, Winter Soldier) with runs of him being quippy and light-hearted (Avengers).

Though half your post is now just buzzwords and is verging on being a copypasta all because you're upset people enjoy a cinematic universe of action-comedy more than they enjoy a cinematic universe of non-stop drama and depression.

You even used Dark Knight as an example of how you would prefer MCU movies to be. And Dark Knight's success is exactly the reference DC used when they decided to reboot Superman with Man of Steel.

It's not the new voices as much as the attitudes. HDL are now such flawed douches/edgelords that, while not entirely hateful and not AS extreme as in Quack Pack, are too problematic to function as viewer ID characters.

And that leaves Webby, who would be Pippi Longstocking tier if matched with likeable nephews, but in their absence, she becomes viewer ID character by default a lot of the time.

Even that isn't fatal to the show (unless you're an MRA who sees everything as feminism-cancer), but it changes the focus TOO much.

Webby is not the star, nor does she really hog a majority of the screen time; but it FEELS that way because she's now the most likable and real.

And that's very strange for stories set in what is still very much the Duck universe...

Nope, they were only on the Disney Channel, which was still a PAY channel at the time; and usually only for a half-hour at 6:30 AM or so, or an hour at midnight (the "Vault Disney" nostalgia selection, with more black and white cartoons included).

Disney was addicted to making its stuff hard to see, in the idea that this would make it more treasured like some great rarity.

What they did was raise a generation without an easy ability to see them.

Only modern DVDs (2000s) and YouTube piracy finally changed this. I was an 80s kid and nobody around me had any idea who Mickey and Donald were as characters, unless they were lucky enough to know the comics (hard to find) or the cartoons (hard to find).

this is because they aired out of order. the creators wanted each character to have enough focus at a time, with some episodes focusing on scrooge, some on webby, some on huey, etc. but disney xd fucked up the order and aired a bunch of webby episodes. the episode order is CRUCIAL in this series, don't try to deny that

I'm still waiting for the season to be completed. Lately, Disney XD cartoons don't seem to find their footing until the end of S1 and then they start improving in S2 because they know what they wanna do. It's been like this for some time on that channel.

I have my gripes and I have things I like but I'm not gonna cast an opinion just yet until it looks like things just won't change

And that's just the comics. The old movie shorts
also did their job to cement the role of Donald Duck.
It's always been Donald Duck.
If a DT2017 episode features Donald Duck, the parts with him will automatically be regarded positively by me, even although those parts might be really weaker than the rest of the episode.
That's indoctrinated in my DNA.
And I'm not even a Swede, who are even more hardcore into Donald Duck.

Other people watching DT2017 will put more emphasis on Scrooge, Gizmoduck, on Launchpad or on Darkwing Duck. That's fine, and important too. I'm not going to give a shit about Webby possibly upstaging one of the triplet boys.
Kid characters are kids. They're for kids to relate to. Assuming that kids even care about kid characters.

Harvey Beaks was universally praised but it got nowhere close in popularity to other shows. Almost everyone loves OtGW. There are some shows that vast majority considers good. Don't get me wrong, people like to shit on things a lot, but among all the shitslinging, good product still gets deserved praise.
Not making ton of retarded threads about one cartoon also helps in having good vibes and discussion in threads about it.

As someone who has never watched the original beyond seeing the movie once, I like it, fine. I love Webby in this, but I agree with a lot of points other anons are making. It started to drag on me, especially with the lack of adventure.

The sad thing is that Duck comics WERE ubiquitous in the 80s when Gladstone Publishing was in charge. But Disney probably saw all the money they were raking in and yanked the license so they could publish the comics themselves in-house.

Surprise surprise, Disney FUBAR'd the whole enterprise, and that mixed with the 90s collapse of the industry as whole sealed the comics' current fate as shit that appeals to no one but old fucks who happened to be exposed to the good shit when it was around. I'm impressed IDW managed to run Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck monthlies for as long as they did, in spite of the fact that they do not have to pay to create the content, only to localize it.

And yeah Eisner was a twat.

This stuff works in cycles. The 80's were full of stifled enforced sincerity, which the 90's broke from by being sarcastic/ironic. The 00's had people fed up with that attitude and going back to sincerity, while the 10's have had people fed up with THAT and going back to insincerity.

You...you don't seem to understand what reboot means. Rebooting a series means taking an older series and then literally rebooting it by redoing the series with a fresh coat of paint. Sonic Boom is not a reboot of SatAM or AoStH for example but instead its very own original show made with the Sonic franchise. Ducktales is a reboot because it has rebooted the original series into a modernised series, using the same characters and lore whilst also changing many elements by modernising them and making them fresh and exciting for new and old audiences.

Everything has to be clever and have a little bit of action and comedy in it

The art style has to lack enough detail so every episode looks similar

Foreshadowing is key, nothing lasts these days without lore for nerds to wank over
