People are only acting this way because they're giving Marco an actual character flaw when he seemed like bland go-nowhere do-nothing really for so long. He didn't really have a place in the story or even a real goal (no getting a red belt doesn't cout) until now

Likability unfortunately seems to be the death sentence of a character.

Ludo became, if not more likable, more sympathetic, and he's in the void now indefinitely with no real stakes anymore.

Jackie is probably the most likable character on the entire show when it comes to how she presents herself, and we all know what happened to her now.

You should be happy Star and Marco are unlikable.

It's because his character flaw is burning so many bridges until eventually all he'll have is Star.

And that will make Starco feel much more uncomfortable than a lot of fans wanted.

Though "How could Marco's flaw be a flaw if it catapults him towards Starco?" is the mentality of some super shippers, without concern for Jackie's feelings, or those of anyone else on Earth, or Tom's, or honestly even those of Marco himself.

The natural conclusion to the coming-to-age narrative would be Marco leaving his adventure boner behind and returning to Earth but I seriously doubt that's what Nefcy has in mind. It's a longshot but it was never stated she exactly abdicated her power. She got crystalized and power transferred to the next person. I posted this in the last thread but I feel that Marco coming to Mewni is the culmination of his immaturity in his desire to serve his own needs instead of facing his own incoming responsibilities. This culminated in him willingly cutting ties with his girlfriend, family, and friends just like in RWS. Marco's growth will be realizing he can't run to escapism and has to go back to Earth to face adulthood just like Star had to go back to Mewni to face the weight of becoming Queen

Reposting because I believe it to be true

Jarco was never gonna last cause the only way it even was able to happen was because of Star. In fact, all the good things that have happened in Marco's life has been because of Star.

Just narrative alone indicates that the Jarco relationship can't last if the person who was influencing him to do this stuff likes him too since he didn't 100% do it on his own, especially since it's a girl who likes(liked?) him. It's just basic writing 101. I've been thinking this was the case since very early on and it was only exacerbated in Just Friends considering Star got them the tickets and all

My opinion may have changed had the show made Marco try to open up to Jackie more but that never happened

As for TomStar, I'm strongly of the opinion that this is one of Nefcy's tricks so I'm not even going to get into that hot mess

I mean, at this point the only possible direction is TomStar being confirmed and that developing while Marco either laments that he's being cucked after realizing his feelings for Star OR Star and Marco come together because Tom and her were never dating in the first place and season 4 does ditch the shipping drama and focuses on their relationship as a couple instead. 2. Jackie's voice has always been the same, but compare her voice to that in the middle of Just Friends. When Jackie gets a more serious tone (which now has happened in two episodes), she seems to drop the surfer girl/very slightly valley girl accent and seems to take on a more normal voice (it's Grey's natural voice, the low voice she uses for someone like Frankie Foster).
3. Everyone saw it but no one saw it coming this quickly and no one expected everyone to feel sorry for Jackie now.

I don't really count those. That'd be the equivalent of all the Ferguson and Alfonzo background appearances in season 2 despite them never speaking.

Also I don't think Jackie would come to the wedding unless it's firmly established that they're friends again and they weren't cut from each others' lives.

Marco's return to Mewni was born out of a desire to not have to grow up and face future responsibilities (Red Belt) and escape to the life of adventure and status he always wanted to have. He killed his life on Earth (Red Belt) in hopes of living out his supposed fantasy and thinking he would have a knighthood served to him on a silver platter like River had promised but instead he finds himself the sole child amongst a maturing Star and Tom and wanting to go back to a life of going to random dimensions and doing random shit. Star, having just finally started to get her life on track and wanting to live up to her role as future queen, now has an arrested development best friend to keep an eye on on top of everything else.

Marco's growth will be realizing that he has to stop running away form becoming an adult and returns to Earth, much like how Star had to become an adult and return to Mewni

The Jarco break up in no way set up Starco, all it did was tell us the Marco is a self absorbed idiot who only cares about his own needs and has no problem fucking up every relationship he has in pursuit of his own interests. Jackie broke up with Marco because he was forcing himself to be happy on Earth for her sake but Marco did himself no favors by maintaining illusions of grandeur about a life he "thought" he could have on Mewni while ignoring the good life he DID have on Earth. Then you see him act like he was sorry and that he should have treated everyone better but then he leaves for Mewni with a smile on his face, not even bothering to wonder why Jackie didn't bother to see him off. That girl basically destroyed her own heart for his happiness and she wasn't even remotely on his mind when he left. I still feel so bad for Jackie. She deserved so much more, and it feels so unfair that just as we finally got to see what an amazing fun character she can be, she rode her board into the night, heart broken beneath her smile. I'll try to make this clearer:
She was at first a normal queen, with a mewman king husband, and ruled for a while, before running away and abandoning it all.

Obviously any possible offspring she'd had with the monster she eloped with wouldn't be in line for the throne. Also no-one in Star's lineage look like they have any monster blood in them. So, she probably pushed out a crown princess some time before abdicating by eloping.

Also it's a monster, not a demon. Monsters and demons are different species that are treated very differently in Mewni society. Also Eclipsa's nickname is "MONSTER love", duh.

This isn't hard, people. Use your brains and pay attention to the show ffs
