>>96545727Nixon's case makes me laugh.
During he 2004 election, John Kerry's brother was caught breaking into the Republican campaign headquarters for President Bush #43. Kerry's brother was caught in the act of wiretapping the phone lines of the Republican campaign headquarters. CAUGHT IN THE ACT!
Did John Kerry have to resign his position in shame? Nope. Did he have to drop his campaign for president. Nope. Was it a 3 month long national scandal? Nope. Was it a week long scandal? Nope. It got about 15 seconds air time on the major broadcast news evening shows, and never mentioned again. Kerry was never asked about it in any of his press conferences.
Keep in mind, Nixon was hounded out of office for it being discovered his people, not his brother, did something similar, and then Nixon tried to wash it all away.
Politics is totally screwed up. Worst president in terms of known corruption is Bill Clinton, with Obama a far second. Not that the recent Republicans can claim to be pure as snow, but when someone on your team does something, well that's just a one off, an outlier. But one someone on the other guy's team does it, its representative of everyone on their team. Most of the US media is Democrat or leaning hard to Democrat, so they don't bother to keep harping on those "one off" and "simply terribly misunderstood" things, like Hillary Clinton's brother being arrested for bribery and selling access to Bill and Hillary while Bill was president. That was just a misunderstanding, you see.
And that is why politics absolutely sucks. Its all team sports and who has incorporated what team into their identity, which blocks rational debate and reasoning between the teams.
