>>96486027>>96486030Anja and Surma were best friends. There isn't a chance in hell she wouldn't notice if something was wrong with her. Surma left the court with Tony and Annie so that Anja wouldn't see her get sick and die.
>>96486019I think people have missed the point of the story. It wasn't to show Annie that Tony is a good person worth forgiving, it was to show her that Surma and Tony were legitimately deeply in love.
>>96486034Again, it wasn't really about understanding that Tony was a cool guy. The thing Annie needed to understand was that Surma was just as crazy about Tony and made a move on him, that it wasn't some trick or manipulation on Tony's part. Annie got the idea from Eglamore and Renard (see Eglamore's giant rant to Parley and
>>96488944), two people that put all the blame on Tony. They deeply believed that it was all Tony's fault that Surma didn't stay with them. Annie believed her parents were in love but she's been hearing how shit her father was all her life and now suddenly Kat loves Tony as well. It was too much, which is why she went ballistic and thought maybe they were right.
If anything perhaps this will wake Annie up to the fact that her mother is not the perfect paragon people always portray her as. Eglamore and Renard continued to put Surma on a pedestal and blame Tony for everything. Maybe understanding that her mother was not perfect will help her with her complex. She doesn't have to try to be a perfect person because Surma wasn't either.
Surma is a good, flawed character, but no one in the narrative understands how flawed she was other than maybe Anja. Surma's death drives the entire plot forward and will continue to be a point of contention for both generations of friends until people like Eglamore can get over her. Renard has already moved forward a decent amount but it's clearly weighing on plenty of other peoples' heads. They need to settle this shit before they can try to start breaking free from the Court's grip.
