Mid-2000s cartoons often had the best scores, most interesting plots and/or most humorous dialogue, and the most accomplished "cinematography" of any visual media. The best were stunning works of art and imagination.

Look, I don't even have a real problem with you wanting to bring it up, but the way you've been going about it feels desperate and tactless, and it's only going to bite you in the ass if you don't project yourself better. You need to understand that you aren't going to be able to keep shilling your opinions here successfully if you come off as being as desperate as you do so repetitively.

I mean, I've actually tried to watch the show, because I'd really, honestly like to enjoy it. But I just can't. Just things like seeing Hay Lin's grandmother not dying, or anything much of the natural dynamics of the character's lives that I actually found interesting at all, makes it hard to get into it. It's not even about being a stickler for the comics, which aren't perfect, its that the possibility of events having interesting moral consequences is largely thrown out the window given how 'Disneyfied' everything ends up feeling.

It's interesting that you bring up 'cinematography', since that's exactly the quality which I feel Japanese magical girl shows, and following on from that through influence, the WITCH comics, have in spades, to the point where I really would say that they really do have the best use of scene setting/paneling of any TV or comic book series respectively.

I don't even understand why you'd object to this. It's not about 'suffering' at all, rather, I specifically liked the way things happened because of how realistically undramatic and natural her death was. It's not that she has to die in order for it to be any good, or even that I'd want a character to suffer, it's the show's seeming complete fear of portraying death, even if there's barely any drama or suffering at all, that makes it difficult to take seriously. I find it strange that you'd throw this, of all things, as your objection to me.

Except in the reaction to it, which is the main reason the comics kept doing things like that!
When you're not a great storyteller, you tend to rely on shocking twists and turns instead.

But the biggest point of all: it ultimately meant nothing in the comics! She was still a character in the story moving forward. So similarly to many, many other changes the show made, removing the retarded aspects of the comics and changing them to actually make sense!
