>>96191596>>96199623How "vulnerable" he is to magic comes and goes based on the writer. When he was possessed by Eclipso he tanked several shots of Shazam lightning from the Wizard himself.
You have to understand it started back in the Silver Age where Superman being invulnerable meant he was absolutely fucking invulnerable. Amos Fortune's "stelleration" based reality warping did nothing. Cosmic star trek Aliens did nothing to him. He could not tire. Green Lantern could imprison him but he couldn't harm him.
He couldn't even be teleported unless the teleporation device used red solar radiation.
Unless you had kryptonite, red solar radiation, magic, (or more obscurely-Kryptonian gravity and Q radiation) you were not hurting Superman even if you were Galactus with the power cosmic. You either checked one of his vulnerability boxes or you just didn't hurt him.
Flash forward to the present era where you -can- hurt Superman if you just punch him hard enough or use enough force. Now the writers know "magic" is something Superman is vulnerable to, but it's not enough to treat a magic beam as a laser blast that actually hurts him because laser blasts now can hurt Superman. So writers take it a step further and make it so that magic sometimes effects him like kryptonite.
