It really should have been some sort of story of a bridge forming between human and a ghost that formed the loving marriage and bond they now have despite their differences, reflecting that of the sorta friendly theme Erma's got going right now, that despite being an Eldritch-tier horrifying monster she still has a place in the human world and her friends like her regardless of her spooky qualities.
They would connect, and to avoid the copyright ties you could say that she's inhabiting a haunted house or haunted VHS store for kicks and giggles, and he regularly visits her after getting spooked hard on the first visit and ending the spooks short by finding something to connect between the two. Like him picking up a VHS tape of a movie he really likes, and just before she really gets spookin', she notices the movie and says she likes it too or some shit, I dunno. Besides that, he makes a friend and returns to visit her. Each time she does some spooky shit which he slowly accumulates to, until it's no longer that big of a surprise anymore and further increase the connection between the two. Then he finally asks her out, she leaves the site of the haunting for the first time in years, and they have a fucking blast doing shit. Some people were spooked hard, but the whole day was a grand time. More dates and eventually she asks to visit his place. He accepts and they go over and watch a movie or whatever, and she starts asking the real questions. Stuff like how he sees her and all that, and that it isn't weird for him to be with a girl like her. Tender shit, kisses and all that, and small scenes of flash forwards. Hanging out together more, her "haunting" his place, proposing and marriage, and ending it with a picture of baby Erma.
Shit idea off the top of my head, but feels better to me than what we got
