>>95846701This show is way better than SU for me right now, but I think it lacks a serious side. Far be it from me to suggest a cartoon needs a serious side, but it seems like SU and K.O. are two halves of one whole.
Ian's show understands how to board with camera angle in mind for a show and not a webcomic - while the animation is always quick and dirty, the action scenes are done extremely well in terms of framing and impact. It also understands how to do spontaneous humor extremely well. Ian and Ashley and K.O.'s VAs deserve props for their comedic voice work on this show. Based on how he was directed in Bravest Heroes I had no idea Ian had it in him to be a good VA. He constantly surprises me in this show. His lines in TKO never fail to crack me up (MY SKELETON <imperceptible whining>)
Sugar's show has a good grasp on humanizing/relate-able personal failings and is constantly filled with empathy and people re-evaluating what they believe, which is something I think is direly missing in society in general, but after the first season or two it has become too maudlin for me. It lost the joy and humor, and its attempts to get said elements back have come off as hackeneyed at best (I know people loved it but Harlock Lars out of the blue is shitty)
