>>95794611>someone doesn't like the game, better tell them to go to /v/'Muh arenaslaughter' is a legitimate complaint given how limited the level design in Doom 4 is compared to both the original Doom games. Quake 1 is even less limiting than Doom, with very few areas forcing you to sit down and fight enemies (it's no coincidence that Quake was the game that more or less created speedrunning with Quake Done Quick), and going the same route with a Quake reboot would be just awful. Quake was all about smaller but tightly interconnected levels that experienced players can fly through, with a lot of emphasis on verticality and shortcuts (one of Romero's specific rules for designing Quake maps was, "If it can be made in Doom, scratch it and start over"), and the page of the game being dictated entirely by the level layout and the enemies as the player has a rather simple arsenal with no weapon-switch delay and doesn't even have a +use key for opening doors or pressing switches.
