Seeing both I find really hard to believe the English came first, since a lot of things simply work better on the French one. Hawkmoth's name aside, his Miraculous is clearly a butterfly yet the English dub says it's a moth.
There were more examples I noticed when watching both versions but I can't remember them now.
The English dialogue does have direct input from the creative team, including more controversial decisions like scrapping Akumatizing for Evillizied, I just don't find it likely to be the original draft.
