Seriously, fuck Disney. "Fungus Among Us" would've been that much better had they not spoiled the surprise ending. We already knew the PnF crossover was happening next year, so simply advertising this episode as an epic season finale with the return of the Pistachions and having Doof show up out of nowhere would've been a well-executed mindblow to the audience.

To be fair, a lot of cartoons have made some kind of joke about it in one way or another. Either it's right on the nose with it joking about WHAT caused the ship to sink, or they toy with a similar scenario occurring but without all the horrible deaths.

The subplot/main plot are a lot more connected than in P&F.

And the joke with P&F was always Candace and Doof were the real main characters.

Exactly. This time they played with the dynamic a bit more by hiding the subplot for significantly longer, but also having it connect to the A plot much earlier. Remember how P&F waited until the freaking movie to have Phineas and Ferb talk with Doof? And that was after 3 seasons or so.

Phineas and Ferb was originally conceived as a three act show with six to seven minute segments that occasionally intersected and that were definitely going on at the same time.

Even after dropping the bugs, they still had over a decade of thinking about the show working in a particular way, which can be pretty hard to overcome.

Milo Murphy's Law was built from the start with the intention of two different stories that converge; plus it had the benefit of coming after they had actually hammered out the process in PnF.

Generally speaking, spinoffs are marketed from the start as being based on the original work. It's really more a shared universe than a true spinoff, which would have been the Fireside Girls Show or Doof 101 since those would have sprang directly from the pre-existing show and been marketed that way.

What suprised me the most was that guy in breaking the land speed record in Love Tobogganing, listing off all his family members with "he died".

It's not particularly shocking by itself but I remember when animated shows used to do verbal gymnastics to avoid saying that, and he just says it several times.

But honestly I hope they don't go that route. Sibling reveals never really add much and turns a friendship based on shared experiences into "well of course they liked each other cause it was ingrained in them".
