Honest question, in romance novels is there no conflict? Is it just people sitting around talking about how awesome everyone else is?

Because thats what the Riri book is, and its *boring*. But if this is what women seek out of storytelling then perhaps its the perfect fit for them. But for this male, a character who never does anything, never struggles and with that struggle, overcomes, is boring as hell.

Riri is the polar opposite of Demon in a Bottle. We'll never see her screw up, we'll never see her alienate all her friends, we'll never see her hit bottom. Thats a bad thing, because only from hitting bottom can you tell the redemptive story of climbing back up.

I guess Bendis is scared to death to do anything bad to Riri because he'll be slammed for "i cant believe you are so racist and sexist as to have a black girl screw up!" responses you know he'd get. Its ok for white males to mess up, but everyone else must be epitomes of perfection. Which is exactly how Marvel *didnt* portray their characters for decades, but broken humans doing the best with what they had.

Also this, nothing happens. If I had to make a comparison to other media this is the Glasslip of comic, they spice stuff up, has big funds behind it and even a meme writer, yet nothing happens.

All romance books go the exact same way romantic comedy films do. First the main character and the dreamy guy hate each other, then circumstances force them to be together, they slowly warm up to each other, have a moment where they "break up" until one of them confesses love in some important moment like other one going to leave to the other side of the country or marrying someone else. Then they live happily ever after, leaving that poor guy or girl on the altar thinking what the hell just happened.

Other version is the Twilight version where main character is a cardboard cut-out and its all about hanging with the dreamy guy, with some plot thrown in at times to pretend the story is about something else than the male sexual fantasy. This version is just borderline porn.

OP, it's time to put the books down and walk away from Marvel until they get their shit together. It may take years, but you can get through this. We made it through the 90's, we can make it through this. And maybe there will be something worth coming back to in the future. But even if there's not, you're only punishing yourself and rewarding them for bad behavior at this point.

RDJr was just doing ultimate tony, for the most part, who was basically drunk douchebag Tony who had never hit bottom and never would. making 616 into that is horrendously stupid. even the move version grew up a bit. you can't go backwards. unless you want to say tony was never actually un-inverted. that might work.

Keep in mind that this high number only exists because of the 20+ variant covers. Marvel was hell-bent on making Bendis' run a smash hit using gimmicks rather than storytelling to win comic shops over.

I recall reading an article about japanese romance VN's aimed at women, which are a near billion dollar business at this point in there. Most popular husbando in all of them is the hard to obtain-tough warrior/fighter guy who is cold towards the main character at first and rarely shows his true feelings.
