>>95112378>hard workthis was never rewarded. Our capitalist system is actually based on natural human behaviors. Pastoral communities have always had 'capital' in the sense of land and rights. You don't 'work' for this, you own it, buy it, or obtain the rights to it through inheritance. In other words - individual 'hard work' doesn't mean shit unless you own stuff - land, money, political dynastic power ALREADY. You must be born rich to have the initial opportunity for 'hard work' to matter. Mexican fruit pickers work fucking hard - rich shitheads on top of the food chain DO NOT WORK at all. It has never been otherwise. Groups of low income people COULD group together to obtain some kind of success together but the pervading mythos of western individualism only supports those who already have strong support systems or inherited capital.
You might think this has nothing to do with artistic creativity: but this is why individualist culture is so insidious. If a few creative artists grouped together they could compete but then all their fans would call them 'sell outs' and the other artists in their range won't help them, collaborate, and try to crab bucket such artists down. In order to compete when you don't have a strong support system (and the culture itself dismisses this, calls it 'weak' or whatever) self sabotaging by 'going it alone'.
