Background characters just for the sake of having more background characters fells kind of pointless, they already have the BoM lurking around as backup and who knows how the Voltron alliance/rebel thing is going to play out.
Personally hoping Matt sticks around the main cast for a while as a rebel liason, bonus if he butts heads with the crew rather that just being a lapdog like Kolivan.

After Zarkon awakes, the Galra Empire will split into a 70/30 civil war between Zarkon and Lotor's factions.

Team Voltron will end up having an extremely uneasy alliance with Lotor, since Zarkon becomes twice as ruthless to reestablish the dominance Lotor failed to upkeep, and because he was put into a coma.

Lotor's commanders come with him too.

I hope not. I like Lotor, and i give him alot of leeway as a character because they openly admitted S3 isn't a full season so obviously he wasn't going to get the fleshing out he should receive.

But in my opinion Lotor should be, or atleast show he has the potential of being as bad as Zarkon, he just doesn't have the raw power his old man does so he has to play it smart.

Not that anon, but Keith's insecurity in his leadership role and Lance's insecurity in general are pretty big parts of their characters. I can get finding the fanworks cringey but fretting over how others interpret the show sounds like a miserable time.

I'd say that's a different thing altogether. The whole series is basically just Naruto harassing Sasuke until he gives in. They never even liked eachother when they were on a team but Naruto nostalgiafags them into husbands in his own mind.

Shiro and Keith have a "mysterious past" together and actually act like they like being in eachother's company.

I guess both relationships have alot of homo overtones/"subtext", though.

It's actually incredible to me that this fact seems to fly over the heads of so many in this fandom, especially the yaoi fujos. That never made any sense because Sasuke was nothing but a prick to everyone and has literally no redeeming qualities. However in this case it makes sense for Keith to care about Shiro as much as he does. Keith's autism and hesitance to getting along with people outside his comfort zone (ie people who aren't Shiro) makes him interesting to me. He's a generic kuudere, sure, but they usually don't have one person they melt over right off the bat like he does and having him just become instant best buddies with everyone would make him even more of a shonen protagonist.

Critics complained about the lion swap in Season 3 but that's pretty much it afaik.
The writers are definitely aware of how shit the pacing is though. Apparently it's Dreamworks' fault and they wanted things to go on longer in between events but were forced to trim down a lot of scenes because the suits wanted ACTION ACTION ACTION.

The dynamic they've set up between them is far more interesting and compelling than Kallura, that's for sure. It's one of my favorite pairings but it will probably stay one-sided. I was rereading that thing from the interview and it technically never said the person would return his feelings, just that he'll settle down with looking everywhere for love when there's already someone there. I don't know if I love it but I genuinely liked it in season 2 and the only other ships I really care about are basically crack that have zero chance of happening anyway. Revealed a softer and more sensitive side to Keith when his hard tsun to everyone except Shiro (who he already knew beforehand) was getting aggravating. I actually felt bad for him over his sadness when Allura rejected him. It also made Allura more sympathetic to me when they unveiled her various insecurities and self-doubts. I'm really glad they kept that up with Allura in Season 3 even if it's a shame they didn't follow up on the other stuff.

Okay but how though? What does her character even bring out of him? Or even theoretically bring out of him?

With Lance and Allura, you've got a flirt who constantly fails at scoring, who only saw Allura as a hot chick when he first met her, respecting her as a person and forming a genuine bond. And with Allura, you have a stuffy princess put off by Lance's boorishness finding herself adopting some of his habits and being subconsciously charmed by them. Then you've got her throwing what he dished out back at him, causing the insecure cocky flirt to spill spaghetti because, holy shit, the girl he hit on all this time is actually starting to notice him. Not an original dynamic, sure, but sure as hell more interesting than, what, Squall and Rinoa minus the manic pixie dream girl aspect?

I see the potential in the ship in that I believe Keith and Allura will grow together as confidants and hopefully lovers. Allura has learned about her faults through Keith and his heritage. Believe it or not Keith is taking a lot of what she says to heart. In the episode where he's getting triggered by Lotor, he repeats something that Allura stated in an earlier episode. The other half of season 2 was him feeling awful for her hatred over him, when in season 1 he was indifferent. I feel like he's warming up to her. Shiro, in comparison, is just making Keith regress with his constant coddling.

Keith may not be a goofball or the romantic type like Lance, but he has a softer side which we've seen him show to Allura in season 3.

The only thing that is absurd is your insistance why no one is answering your question. Sometimes people like a ship because they do. No one has to give out a thesis on why you feel its best or why you support it.

And perhaps I am biased because I grew up with the old series, but I am not seeing "out of the nowhere" as some folks are saying. Perhaps it is yet I'm seeing the slow burn. I will concede if I do not see anything worthwhile in season 4 or season 5.

Yeah you can if you turn on the settings for it. Anyway let's just agree to disagree, because my experiences with the two ship tags has been different. I've found the Western SFW stuff for Sheith to be pretty good and balanced while the NSFW stuff is more tropey, while it's the other way around for Klance (though they really are settling into uke-Lance hard these days).

As for my experiences with Sheith 90% is a bit much but it's still on the higher end like 75%, I will concede that Sheith topShirofags usually make him a "nice" top as opposed to a rapey one like a lot of other semefags in other fandoms.

I've tried looking past it, to ignore the meta self-awareness but anons never doing anything to improve the thread. It's like an entire thread is a metaphor for self-destructive behaviour with depression. I can't handle that anymore, I already deal with depression and I didn't want to see /vld/ becoming that, something I used to really like being turned to arguing and finger pointing. You've all made it easy for anyone to take advantage of you, or just other regular anons themselves. I think the last straw was seeing that we unintentionally shoo away other artists, people with skill, people that don't just do ms-paint shitposts. What happened to Blaytz? I think we can assume he wasn't the one who hid the lion on earth, so who was it?

It's possible Alfor enlisted the BoM to help hide the lions.

It's also possible that Keith is all Galra, Altean, and Human. Maybe his earliest ancestor was the product of a Galra and Altean, and that person was human passing enough to then have human partners and the bloodline continued from there. But this would be a 10,000 year old bloodline, so the idea that Keith still had enough Galra blood in him to use their technology is strange unless they really only require one drop.

Keith being an orphan and BoM member is also suspicious. Maybe he has been an unaware plant all along, just like Shiro could be. Maybe their relationship is no coincidence and it's all part of someones master plan who has been manipulating everything from the start.

That all depends on when the BoM was created. Did they do it before or after the fall of Altea? Kolivan said they formed after seeing that the expanding the empire was a ploy to just conquer. We don't have a good grasp when they came to be.

A 10k year bloodline takes out every single suspension of disbelief as not even a small child would ever believe a 10K year old ancestor would ever come into play for its decendent, Keith.

I forget what interview it was but I think Lauren said Keith's vision in the BoM wasn't supposed to be literal. So it's possible he didn't even actually know his dad growing up and is just cobbling the idea from photos. I don't think that man is completely planted into him, but that comment did add to my suspicions of Keith actually being a Galra-Altean hybrid and that McCree wasn't actually related to him at all. Especially since they don't look a thing alike when Pidge and Allura's family definitely do, and so does Lance's family kinda.

Black was carried off on the castleship but it was sealed there as a precaution against Zarkon getting ahold of it, from the looks of it in the flashback they fucked off themselves or were convinced to somehow.

Honestly, I'm starting to think that Keith being part-Galra is a red herring. The obvious thing that he looks completely human, but also that we have no real proof that the BoM dagger belonged to his mother. Based on the mindscape thing, that could be pure assumption on his part. The other big thing is him being able to access Galra-tech, but he can ALSO sense the lions just like Allura (who is pure Altean), so what if his ayylmao half is just some quintessence golem or void demon shit that can hack other alien traits? The more I think about it the weirder Keith is.

I don't know why people like to christen Shiro as being the space dad. Most everything we've seen of his character so far has involved being kidnapped and having to rely on those he 'parents' for help, and his concern for the paladins feels like it only exists in the first place from guilt over losing the Holts. Like, rather than a dad, his dynamic is more so a strict leader, or a troublesome older brother? Maybe someone more eloquent could make sense of this.

I don't have an opinion on the dad thing myself, but does this really have anything to do with it? Sam is also waiting to be saved by his children, lots of kid's movies are about kids saving their parents. I'd say Shiro's more of an older brother figure for the paladins but as a surrogate family I can see him taking the single dad (unless you count Coran) role as well since there's miles of difference between his maturity and the others.
