Saying, "I fought a man in drag last tuesday" can easily be quoted at "I fought a man in drag." The quote doesn't change the meaning of the original statement, it just excludes information not relevant to the circumstance. This is why you can quote, paraphrase, or summarize statements or lines in an essay without writing out the entire book to make sure there is context for a statement, as long as the statement is quoted in such a way that the intended meaning of the original author is unchanged. Which I did, because their explicit statement was that Gravity Falls looks better than other modern cartoons, and excluding the extra words doesn't change the original intent.
