We are probably only at the very begging of the shitty Calarts era. The cartoons are going to look a lot worse before they start to look better. I blame stuff like Invader Zim and Ed, Edd and Eddy — good cartoons with hideous art. And today's kids will grow up watching Spaghetti Time, Steven's Off-model Universe and Lakeplaza Ultra-eyerape. Just imagine what sort of bile-raising/super-bland art-styles they will come up with.

People like CWC of sonichu, has drawn since his early childhood, he's climbing to his 40's now, and he still sucks ass.
It's because he doesn't want to learn how to do it better.
He's stuck because he lacks the drive to improve.
There are many artists that started "late" in their lives, and simply keep improving, and surpass themselves on a 'monthly' basis.

It's not just the amount of time, it's also the amount that you have learned; and are able to put to practice.

One more tip:
Regardless of the artist's ability over there, or anywhere desu), they all downplay their craft, don't be scared to share your processes too, but first read the sticky.
Also join Deviantart, it's more Artpost driven opposed to tomblr, which is far more blog driven with art and video options.
Deviantart is thus way less in your face about, YOU, posting, and more about your posts itself.
The community is highly active(favourite a lot of art you like, and you will see people rising up to respond to it), and communicating with them is typically pleasant.
