>>93694031Wow. Okay, I've got a lot of mixed feelings to unpack.
Scrapper, if you're out there, this is for you:
If you struggle with fucked up impulses, you have my sympathies. If you are able to manage or control them, or have moved passed them, you have my admiration.
If the psychoanalysis being done here is even vaguely accurate then yeah, I can see why you would want to see characters like Azula as figures who are good and have been given a raw hand, but I think you're doing yourself a disservice.
The tragedy of Azula isn't that she's some inherently good girl with a shitty parent situation. Its that she's a girl who has harmful impulses who's shitty parent situation meant that she didn't have the resources she needed to have a healthier, happier life. Given different circumstances she could have been good, but to be so she would still have had to struggle with that part of herself. It would have been hard, and there would have been many opportunities for her to fail, but if she succeeded that would have been her victory.
Likewise, if you've managed to get to a better place than where you were as a kid, that's your victory. No one can rob it from you, even if you continue to struggle.
The rest of the stuff though? That's weird and inappropriate. I don't say that to shame you, I say that so that you know there's still work to be done.
Since I was 13, I've suffered from chronic depression. It, combined with my ignorance and lack of coping skills, devoured 10 years of my life, and it took me another 5 years to get my shit back together. Its still there, but I'm managing it. I live a happy and fulfilling life (inb4 >4chan) even if I still struggle from time to time. So don't get discouraged! Its okay to take breaks if you need them. Just keep at it.
Take care,
