Capes do sell here better than any other books. Shops sell manga too and it doesn't do well, not in America, not in the since that look how much better this sells than your average cape book.
I'm sure I've said this before about other topics dealing with sales, but companies (ALL COMPANIES) provide what the reader buys most. No significant number of people in America are buying "slice of life" or "romance" As many excuses as Marvel makes about why they have low sales or being more inclusive, Simply look at the books that do well. Look at DC going back to what performs best. THAT is the majority of the American market. This is what people overwhelmingly ask for. It's the long running trend, it's the history, it's the culture. >>93553653 but the overall attitude is comics/manga - cartoons/anime is a kids medium. And that kind of product sells fantastical stories best. There's no need for nuance or emotional depth, action is what sells, heroes are what sell.
Even the anime that gets exported here and does exceedingly well, makes waves, is basically cape shit with a Jap flavor. One Piece, One Punch Man, My Hero Academia. All super powered adventure shows. Capes do well,companies make cape books because the majority of people want capes.
