>>93543142Overall IDW G1 is a very good series. It is "adult" in many ways, from robotic hyperviolence to some vague sense of moral greyness, while still sticking to "ultimately, Autobots are good and Decepticons are bad". If you love continuity and all the hints and teasers at long-running arcs, you will like this.
However, like all media it isn't perfect. Some transformers live when "logically" they would have died, many transformers die senseless deaths (which may be good or bad depending on your tastes and opinion on said bots), others are written out, a few can be obnoxious or very hateable, some are shilled, and others disappear for a long long while.
There is focus on human sidekicks for the first few arcs (not sure how far it extends), but they don't feel too annoying because the sidekicks are adults and not children, and more or less know they shouldn't get involved in fights.
Some plotlines come out of nowhere, there are some illogical developments, and forced conflict in a few ways.
Also the reading order is a goddamn pain, but if you just read the volumes it should be fine. Don't worry if you have to look stuff up on the wiki, it can help refresh your memory.
