>>91665053The general mood and tone didn't do it any favors either. The original was very bright and colorful to really drive home how fantastical the factory is. The tone was also very light-hearted and optimistic. It looked like every child's dream, which makes sense since it's supposed to look appealing.
The Depp movie on the other hand felt like a warped, distorted mockery of the original movie. It was dark and creepy, it didn't even remotely look like something a child would want to visit. Everything was white and sterile, there was nothing fantastical about it, there was no sense of wonder. You can tell Tim Burton got his grubby hands all over the damn movie, the difference is baffling.
I know that Dahl hated the original, but honestly he can go fuck right off. It's easily the best adaption of his works.
