Uncucking Hawkman is one of the goals for it. And I haven't read much of it so forgive me if this sounds dumb, but doing this through the Rann-Thanagar War. We haven't seen Rann in JLU continuity so it would be a good adventure for Hawkman and Sheriya to go on with Adam Strange. John comes with them but basically Hawkman and Hawkgirl would have their moment there and Hawkgirl sees his heroism and his love for her more clearly.
John being reincarnated can be retconned as Shadow Thief just fucking with Carter's mind.
