Black Cat/Silver Sable can work without Spiderman technically

Venom is literally impossible to work without Spider-Man unless they depict it in near future where its hinted that it has broken from the bond with Spiderman and attached to a new host whether Eddie or Flash

If they are gonna make a Symbiote movie that hasnt bonded to Spider-man and bonded to someone else directly then it cant be called Venom movie

I wouldnt be surprised if they make it Carnage stand alone movie and call it Venom

To be fair they would have lost it at all if they hadnt released SM4 by the then deadline. An extension with rebooting the franchise was their best bet to keep the rights

Merchandising wasnt the major chunk of money anyway. Also what good is keeping the merchandising rights if you are unable to retain the franchise

Winter Soldier $170 million budget
Doctor Strange: $165 million budget
Ant-Man: $130 million budget
ASM2: $200-293 million budget

Also don't forget that international box office (which was the bulk of the reported number for ASM2) is not exactly what the studio receives. Studios get more back from domestic than international, even if they are trying to tailor more toward international. If you compare Spider-Man 2 with ASM2 then you'll notice that the total reported box office is a difference of just 74 million. But if you compare domestic box office, ASM2 only got $202.9 million domestic while Spider-Man 2 got $373.5 million domestic.

But this scene only works in comics, because actual teeth don't light up like a Scooby-Doo episode. This wouldn't even work in comics if it was done by an artist with a more realistic style, only one with heavy lines and a focus on shadow.

This is a problem with cape movies I thought we all realized with Watchmen. Direct adaptions don't work because the page and the screen are different mediums that do different things great. That scene doesn't need to be in a tentpole blockbuster to be legitimized, it's awesome, it works great, it's uniquely comic book.

Compare it with other Spider-man movies as seen in pic related. ASM2 is the least earning Spider-Man movie made by Sony

Sony Picture executives didn't WANT to work with Marvel. The deal only happened because Sony Japan forced them to.

They are doing this, now of all times, because Sony Pictures was insulted and felt that they are not wrong, that they can definitely make a cinematic universe without Marvel. They are doing this out of spite and a missguided sense of their own sense of competence.

From the leaks we can tell that Sony Pictures are a bunch of idiots who think they know what they are doing. They are doing this to try and prove they are not idiots.

If you want an even more accurate method as per industry standards of knowing how the studios got then you can calculate 95% of opening weekend collections , then sliding scale 80 % for the first week colections, 70% of second week .....upto 50% 4th week and after.

Avi Arad....is not one of those people. He and some others felt he should have been kept on as producer of Spider-man homecoming. Avi was not, he feels cucked, and he's not a /tv/ poster so he's not down with that. So, he wants to make venom, he's always wanted to make a venom movie. Even after venom fucking died in spider-man 3 he still wanted to make a venom movie. The guy has been clinging to this idea for over 10 years. I doubt it will be any good. Just look at john peters and the way he clung to ideas about superman for over 10 years. It's going to be ass. He's not going to feel any better about himself. Producers over 60 years old are ignorant as fuck to what people want in movies and why the MCU works, or why deadpool worked and so on.

From what the media reported, Sony Japan was angry that the original deal for Spiderman was rejected by Sony Pictures. And the reason they were angry, was that they only know about the failed deal by reading the Sony leaks themselves.

Thus Sony Japan forced Sony Pictures to make a deal with Marvel. And this meant Sony Pictures was never happy about it.

It might be less to do with that, and more to do with the realization that if Sony did it first, then Marvel would have less hold on the character. By publishing Spider-Gwen first they set the audience up to assume Spider-Gwen is a certain way.

Pretty much the people actually in charge of the deal dropped the ball. Marvel wanted one, lots of people at sony wanted one. The people actively in charge at the time at sony wanted insane amounts of money and control. Marvel passed. Sony wanted disney money out of marvel, when marvels budget still largely comes from their own work. Once a deal was made did disney step in and offer more budget to civil war to make it an even bigger project.

Season 4 isn't so bad, it is kind of the rehash season.

Still wish they worked out the x-men in season 5. Forgotten warriors got an extra episode because they had to drop the x-men episode of secret wars. Would have made secret wars pretty fucking cool to have mr.sinister and the x-men up there.
