Future Jack turns evil and goes back in time and defeats his past self, and takes his sword. He becomes an undying warlord, wounds Aku maybe (explaining his absence?), and subjugates peoples as well as killing Aku's minions.
The High Priestess makes reference to "the Samurai" cutting a swathe of destruction across Aku's domain: this is not Jack but antler samurai, future evil jack. She and the Daughters think there is only one Samurai, when in fact there are two.
Jack is haunted by the knowledge that some version of himself turned to evil and fears that he is destined to do so also, as it is his future self. This explains the immense dread he feels when he sees his image.
