Hopefully we won't see a drop in with quality with season 3 in terms of writing I know you're baiting but I see it and am scared for the possibility of it attracting those kinds of fans with the actiony cliffhanger finale it just got.

The problem with s2 of su was it was a poor follow up later on after the cliffhanger of the first season was resolved. It was unfocused and convoluted.

Guys, I'm crying right now.
Just looking at her picture makes me feel something strange inside. I guess you could call it "love". I'm in love with Star Butterfly. I've lost interest in all girls, besides her. Girls who are considered "hot" by the general male population don't cut it for me anymore. Star really is all I think about all day, every day. I really do cry myself to sleep at night thinking about how I'll never be with her. If only she knew I existed in this life, if only she knew my deep profound love for her. I know that will never happen though. That is the thought that makes me so sad when I look at her. I'll never be with her, but I'll continue to love her until the day I die.

It's not likely at all since they don't match romantically in the least. Janna is a jumped up bg character whose whole character is "smug amoral trickster who messes with people for fun and is Star's human friend who's not Marco".

Tom however has had more attention and development thought put in him, starting from having a celeb VA, and he's vulnerable, has intense mental health anger issues, and is struggling to become a better person. He's being presented as too sympathetic to end up with someone like Janna. It'd need Janna to be rewritten into a completely different, Jackie-like character to work, but that would be getting rid of the only reason she's around more than Ferguson. Janna isn't gf material.

I base it the entire show as a whole. GF has two great seasons while Star started off very slow with it's monster of the week BS and finally got the ball rolling in the last few episodes of S1. S2 finally got itself up there in talks with shows like GF and SU, but SU had an even shittier first two season so that's why it's above it.

Su is shit for the first 8-10 episodes, but then gets pretty good. However around season 4 it starts to stagnate again. It's got great potential, great premise, great lore, but the writing/storyboarding themes just don't know what the fuck they're doing or how they should develop the characters, and pump out retarded memes and filler while everyone in the fandom is waiting for the big plot issues to be adressed.

I still like SU but it's frustrating to see them fuck up with a property like that. Season 2 of Star Vs is doing a great job of raising the stakes when the big plot kicks into gear and keeping them fucking raised, instead of pretending that you can go back to the ayylmao comfy monster of the week thing from the early times for several episodes in a row and not frustrate and piss off people. Like can you imagine if right after Face the Music we'd have gotten 5 episodes in a row of Trickstar, Star on Wheels and Fetch type filler? That's kinda how SU is being handled

Personally, I can't see her as the final boss, but I can see her as a mentor figure to Star, a major villain besides Toffee, or at worst a key role in the backstory of the setting/Toffee. Yeah, I personally also almost dropped SU during the first 8 episodes because I couldn't fucking stand Steven and his retardo bullshit, but the show improves remarkably after that. They have this "Steven's POV" thing going on, everything's from his perspective, and so the show is childish when he's ignorant and grows darker as his understanding and awareness of how bad things really are grows. He also matures a lot and stops being a useless whiny fat fuck.

But it's such a shame the show can't into proper pacing and long-term planning. It's also a shame their filler is so fucking shit.
Collateral Damage in Star vs was truly a great example of what filler could aspire to be, so I just pray Nefcy runs a tight fucking ship and manages to keep her writing /storyboarding teams from going full SU and fucking everything up and just inserting townie characters talking about their feelings and sadness and fear of opening up to love in a way that's totally not the crew processing through their own breakups, instead of ADVANCING THE PLOT

niconico had the Japanese dubs of some episodes posted there, but had only up to Blood Moon Ball for some reason the last time I checked a couple months ago. If you make an account there, maybe with a throwaway email, they might have the Toffee episodes there. Otherwise I don't know where else to find it.

I heard his voice in a Japanese ad for the show, but it was such a brief clip you couldn't really judge it. Not markedly different from the English voice in terms of the effect they're going for was my perception.

Because the she originally pinned the two, Marco and Star, as rivals. They were supposed to fight before the show ended up in the state it is in today. I have a feeling Daron Nefcy still wants that battle to happen.

Within the show there is a lot of symbolism that eludes to it. The monster hand, his reflection/facial expression mirroring toffee at the end of Storm the castle, and his dream where he was wearing toffee's suit, when star opened Eclipsa's side of the book and it tainted Marco and not Star.

SU filler is true for S1, but the show's still comfy. Then it gets intense in 1B, and has good pacing in S2, slightly worse in S3. Then there's S4, which has some of the worst pacing in a serialized work ever.

SU is a propaganda machine designed to espouse and to soapbox Sugar's agenda and politics and not even a subtle way into the show. It's a garbage show with shitty writers and even shittier storyboarders whose "creative" liberties have become a detriment to the show.

You know why there's so much filler or focus episodes on "townies"? It's because there is not much lore and story to the world of the show, hence they delay it time and time again to shill the show runner's morals. All of this could be resolved in a season 2 if not for them.

I used to get annoyed why Star didn't have much "songs" like SU, but I realized that songs are supposed to enhance the story and narrative and not become the narrative unless the focal point of the series is music, like if Steven or these bargain bin Jems for a band. No, these people just randomly break out of song for no reason and take you out of the tension (lol i'm stronger than you so I'm gonna start singing). Hey, Sugar, ever heard of just using an insert song and not have the characters sing it? I was asking because animu tend to do this, you know, the style you which you try to copy a lot? It's fluff to hide the weak narrative and storytelling of its writers.

Also, they cry too much. I'm glad that despite Star getting horribly fucking cucked and humiliated three episodes straight she only cried once in them, making the impact that much better instead of crying over the most trivial of bullshit.

Steven Universe is a terrible who focuses more on moral didacticism than actually telling a decent story.

The story was planned out by a fairly consistent writing team this season who worked on each episode's outline, including Nefcy, some of the storyboarders, etc.

As opposed to having different story guys do each episode, some episodes thought up by producers, others by boarders, etc., the way it was in the first season. Which is kind of why it felt like it went nowhere until near the end and could fluctuate in tone a bit.

I think (hope) they'll keep the new method up. Toward the end of this season it felt like everything started coming together really well.

Anon there's huge overlap between Su and Star vs fandoms. There are loads of people who like and watch both shows due to their similarities. It's pointless to "go hostile" against SU because you'll never be rid of them, the Star vs fanbase probably has too many people who are also in the SU fanbase.

The best approach is just to be firm but polite about keeping SU discussion in /sug/. Shitflinging will only lead to more shitflinging and paranoia, and pretty soon we'll have a situation where hostile antisufags will be out-spam everyone else and the supposed cure will become a much bigger problem than the original one ever was

Yeah this sounds like a good way to go. The thing again about Harry Potter and GoT is that apparently Rowling was really anal about planning the plot and the big arc, she had spreadsheets and everything, and that pays off. GRRM also has the end goal and the main developments in mind, but isn't as disciplined, and it shows in his books; they meander like fucking crazy.

Clearly, with a long game plot lore intrigue story like that, you need to think about the pacing and the big arc well ahead, you NEED to see it all and plan it with someone who holds the reins and has the authority to manage the entire ship. Planning is key.

Season 3 has probably been worked on since March-May 2016 and is maybe hallway or 75% completed now. They knew about the 4th season renewal in December 2016 or earlier.

I think they can incorporate it into it fine at this stage; I think it's also possible at least some of the third season has been written with the knowledge another season will follow it.

Problem with that scenario is Star is already more important to Marco and everyone knows that including Jackie. The sexual tension was oddly non existent for a while, then Star developed attraction and feelings first while Marco already had a crush and was exploring it. Stars also dated before and ready to dated a different type of guy, Marco is new to the game.

When she found out it was Marco AND he was only there to try and get her out of it, she got pissed off.
