Wakfu as an animation was some of their first steps and learning the ropes really. They didn't quite have a strong foundation like they did with Dofus: Treasures of Kerubim.
Wakfu laid the groundwork for them to help them understand (and to some extent practice, learn their strengths and weaknesses) what went right and what went wrong.
From what we can understand and learn from looking at Wakfu to Dofus is simple. Have fewer characters that are more fleshed out and lots of background. You can introduce new characters but don't give them too much limelight until you establish them (Bash, Crocosec, Kangiroo, and Tortue).
The Dofus series also (slightly) benefits from re-run purposes. Outside of the beginning, the ending and a few episodes you can watch the series in nearly any order and not be completely lost. As they are still just Kerub tellign stories from different points of life.
Ankama learned a great deal, and I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised that you could see them tie things together after the Ogrest special. Always being sure to tie it in with the MMO games as well. If a change would be needed they could do so.
I agree with the movie being fantastic. The music is on point, the animation has weight and draws in the viewer well enough. You can still spot the tweening, but they make it up with the pastel flashbacks. Plus we focus on just a few characters, we learn who they are and they all have their own arcs within the story itself.
